re: If it is Riley, is there a single comparable hire in modern CFB history?

Why the frick would Lincoln Riley leave an established powerhouse for a garbage dumpster fire?
Especially since he's about to be coaching in the SEC anyway?
1. He’s maxed out his coaching abilities at OU and all it can get him is CFP appearances only to be blasted by superior talent.
2. He knows he’s a good coach but the talent he can recruit at OU is hindering him.
3. This will only get worse once he gets to the SEC. he can’t skate by in an easy conference to get to the CFP and hopefully win. He will be looking at at least 2 losses in regular season.
4. LSU has won national titles with - in retrospect - inferior coaches.
5. He knows he has the ability to harness LSU recruited talent to actually win titles.
Essentially the decision is: does he want to be an Oklahoma legend - fielding CFP worthy teams but never winning any hardware. Or be an actual college football coaching god by jumping ship.
It’s a saban type decision in front of him. Be a villain for a few years until he starts winning titles?
Nobody thinks of Saban as a former LSU coach. He’s the Alabama coach.
Nobody would think of Riley as a former Oklahoma coach. He would cement his status as the best LSU coach ever.
That legacy, plus the money. It’s a no brainer.

That’s not the only reason it could happen. LSU is typically in the top five in every recruiting cycle regardless of who the coach happens to be. So in comes a coach that is in the playoff just about every season and has coached up two Heisman Trophy winning quarterbacks. He can basically refill the cupboard every season with minimal effort and spend his quality time going after blue chip players.

Alabama was a doormat for a few years...under Shula
So give us a break with your BS troll...
LSU is the program Saban worries most about beating every year.. when we're good...everyone knows what's up...

I think A&M has done it 2 times.
Coach Fran was ascending when he left bama
Obviously jimbo.

We already went thru that with post Bryant era.
Get ready for round 2. I don’t envy that.

Not every school has only had one decent coach.
True. Some have had only 2.

While true, Fisher wanted out of FSU due to the admins. Riley doesn’t really “want” to leave from what we all know.

Fear of what? The SEC is more fun when you guys aren't a shite show.
Yeah. When LSU has a 38 year old offensive genius head coach and we get to play Alabama with your 70 year old coach who is clearly in decline.
Thats going to be alot of fun for the next 10 years.

Jackie Sherrill when TAM pulled him away from Pitt. Not as much a splash as Saban but still up there

Yes! Chris Petersen

I'm not into "poaching". I hate it in fact.

Would you like to remind everyone of Bama's history of coaches after Bryant? Gold standard of dysfunction. And ULM's OC was on deck.

FIsher had won a NC, Riley hasn't won a playoff game.
Fisher was a bigger coup.
I already made this exact thread but I addressed this in there.
Fisher went 5-6 and hadn’t even won his division in the last 3 years he was at FSU. Lincoln hasn’t gone a season without winning the conference. He was clearly on a downswing at FSU
Fisher was also over 50. Lincoln is under 40.
Also historically OU is a blue blood. FSU’s historically can’t touch OU prestige wise.
Fisher is the only comparable but circumstances and context makes Lincoln a much bigger pull.
You are getting a younger coach who is having elite seasons rather than an older coach on a downturn

How many 10 win seasons does Fisher have? I’ll wait

Oklahoma in the SEC will be exactly that. No advantage unless he really likes etouffee

Six.
Was there a point you thought you were making here?

Oklahoma is a worse job in the SEC than it is in the Big 12 and it’s really not even debatable

Arkansas thought we did it with Danny Ford when Hatfield left. Clemson was having success with an NC and having won the ACC several times in the 80s.
He did win us the West in 95 but promptly shite the duvet.

There is not a fan base in the history of sports that needs a bigger slap in the face than you douche bags. Your own coach even hates you.
