if it is then this is totally a diversity hire. Nothing else. Tucker's teams have not been great. If we are hiring like that then we might as well hire Napier. I would love for Aranda or Franklin. Fickell as well. Outside of those we are even further back then we believed. Like Charlie Strong Texas vibes big time.

Getting a black coach would be the exact opposite of a diversity hire. Most of the team is black, we have 4 black coaches on staff, the president is black... this is just a "anyone but a white guy" hire.

Considering white guys are grossly outnumbered in the program, hiring someone who isn't black would be more of a diversity hire.

Tucker would be a BLM hire. Not that Mel cares but the woke powers at be care.

Aranda would be a LaRaza hire. I know Aranda doesn't care but the woke powers at be care.

From 24/7

quote:

One coach whom certain LSU power brokers have interest in, according to Fox Sports' Bruce Feldman: Michigan State coach Mel Tucker.

Tucker has the Spartans off to a 7-0 start this season after rebuilding the program in short order, and he previously served as an assistant coach at LSU, Alabama and Georgia.

“I am told that there are some very influential people inside LSU who are really, really high on Mel Tucker," Feldman said Saturday on Big Noon Kickoff. "Remember, Mel Tucker was an assistant at LSU on Nick Saban’s staff. He knows the SEC very well also. But would he make another move? Remember, he was at Colorado, now Michigan State. Would he make another big move in a short period of time? But this I do know: People inside LSU who matter, they are really high on Mel Tucker.”

As far as BLM hires would go, you can do way worse than Tucker.

They have played exactly zero ranked teams. Let's revisit this after their games with Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State.

coached with saban multiple times

So? This automatically makes him a qualified candidate?

If you are hiring based on the resume only, Aranda isn’t that great on paper. He’s a 2nd year head coach. I definitely like Aranda but neither him nor tiuker top my list but both would win here. Both are better coaches than Miles or O. Both of those idiots won National championships at LSU.

No we wouldn’t be

Tucker is a proven ace recruiter at the highest level and expert defensive coach. Does that translate into success at LSU as head coach? Of course not. But thinking the program would crater is silly, Tucker possesses two traits that travel well.
