I don't want us to hire an NFL coach unless he has proven himself in college before. Winning in the NFL is different than winning in college, two different types of attitudes needed.

Curly Hallman is available.
I was going to suggest Larry Coker but I like the idea of Curley Hallman better. Besides, with Curley being a native son of Alabama and a former Tide assistant, it's a better fit IMO.

If Bama wasn't the most racist state in the union or if Shaw wasn't black, HE would be the perfect hire.
I keed I keed.

This is true. The NFL route can be an enormous gamble for a guy who hasn't had to recruit (biggest issue), deal with teenagers or handle nosy boosters.
College isn't tougher, just a completely different job.

I think Saban's biggest reason for leaving Alabama would be his true fear of having to walk back into Tiger stadium next season. He knows as well as anyone how LSU fans are with opposing teams, much less a coach who left LSU to go to a rival, granite he made the rival much bigger, but you not only left but burned LSU by slipping into the NC in 2011 and was 1 drive, 4 points away from sitting at home for the NC in 2012. So run, but don't think being in the Big 12 will keep us from you. We will find a way to play Texas.
Of course all this is based on rumor and speculation, but it's fun to play with. Woot!!!

David Shaw should be the first guy they call. He'd be a great fit there.
I think Mike Dantonio or Bill O'Brian would be really good hires too but don't think they'd leave- particularly O'Brian who has a pretty sweet contract up there at Penn State.
Dabo would be a death sentence. Lorenzo Ward would be a better former Bama player to hire even though he doesn't have any head coaching experience

The way Saban is recruiting again is setting up so that even if HE DOES leave Bama will dominate the SEC West for a couple years at least
He ain't going nowhere this yr, the loss was a motivator for him
