I like his philosophy and his energy. It is incredible what he has done at Iowa St. Watching interviews of him on Youtube reminds me of a younger Saban. Focuses on the process of improving, etc. Also like Jay Johnson. My two cents!…don’t try to cash it!

Campbell is on the list. It's just that he was in the 3rd/4th slots

Campbell has been my personal favorite from the start and is essentially a clone of the Saban LSU hired. That being said, does he fit the mold of SW's "proven winner"?

their pre-LSU resumes certainly have a lot of similarities…

-both at little brother schools
-records/resume at that first big job are very similar
-both built program to NY6-type bowl in 5 years
-both started as HC at Toledo
-both supposedly thought of highly in NFL circles and by Belichick

Saban
1990 Toledo HC
1995 Michigan State 6-5
1996 Michigan State 6-6
1997 Michigan State 7-5
1998 Michigan State 6-6
1999 Michigan State 9-2 (Citrus Bowl)

Campbell
2012-2015 Toledo HC
2016 Iowa State 3-9
2017 Iowa State 8-5
2018 Iowa State 8-5
2019 Iowa State 7-6
2020 Iowa State 9-3 (Fiesta Bowl)
2021 Iowa State 6-4

Jay Johnson didn't fit that mold in the standard you are applying it to football.

I'm still not sold on Campbell, I understand its probably difficult to win a lot at ISU but he's had terrible losses to inferior opponents.

So, Riley, Campbell or Aranda. Not a bad group to choose from.

I'm hoping Campbell is the real target and that Riley is trying to get a raise.

thought Campbell had taken his name out the mix. Would be very happy to get him though.

Only considered inferior because of how Matt Campbell has changed ISU's reputation and expectation. Wasn't long ago that ISU would only be favored in 1 game a year.

People forget it's still ISU, he's just holding them up on his shoulders.

Exactly. I don't quite get what games people think ISU "shouldn't lose".

It's not like his team is ever significantly more talented than his opponents.

It's not like he's got LSU's talent and losing to Troy, Mississippi State or UCLA.

He loses games to teams with very similar talent to his own. And almost always with bigger football budgets.

Campbell is definitely right behind Riley on my list and I recognize he may end up being a better hire than Riley in the long run.

This board is stupidly way too obsessed with Saban. It's over. He's gone and there will never be another.

I like Campbell. He's solid if not a household name like Riley. Riley inherited Bob Stoops gold mine. Campbell inherited a wasteland. It will be interesting to watch ISU against Ok this weekend.
