It’s the best gig in sports. Be in the top 25 names in college football, have sexton as your agent, and you’re rrriiiich biiiitch.

Even if they fire you!

And not to be mean, but these aren’t exactly the highest IQ individuals either. Some are smart guys. But majority of them are making way way way above their intellect level.

There’s only around 130 D1-A jobs and most of them aren’t great. 32 NFL teams. You’re in the spotlight if you are a head coach.

That's not even the problem.

What keeps more people from chasing this as a viable career is the first 5-6 years, unless you have a solid connect, you're making zilch. That's $0.00 or maybe a low level analyst salary. Talking maybe $30K at a bigger program.

Who in their late 20s or early 30s wants to be making 30-40K waiting for a break? Nah.

And lets not forget. This phenomenon of young coaches is a recent thing. Most of those dudes were in their 40s being coordnators and considered young.

13 hours a day in the off season. During the season they are working way more than 13 hours a day.

Most coaches don’t make jack shite baw. You probably couldn’t event get a middle school football coaching gig

It’s a crazy grind before you actually start making decent money

I’ve thought about this a lot. Especially from talent acquisition, playcalling, game planning perspective.

I think you’re seeing an increased openness to non players in the data and analytics side. More and more brainy guys creating algorithms to acquire potential talent.

I’m just not sure how the smarter guys who would make better tacticians and play callers ever breakthrough on a large scale.

It’s extremely hard to make it. I was in coaching for 20 years coached on the college level for five years. It’s very hard to make it extremely hard to make it to the highest level and yes, starting out you make little to no money. I was a full-time position coach at a 1-AA school, and I made $19,500. Now that’s not normal I was young and was the lowest man on the totem pole but that’s a job that people would literally kill for. So many things have to break your way for you to make it on the highest level.

Hell, if I get close I can be a top coordinator. Look at the going rate for one of those.

Baw, Les Miles and Ed O aren’t at the top of any standardized test scores. I promise. Just looking at those two and how much they hauled away from LSU. It gives a regular baw hope.

It can be done.

Dude, you'd still be equipment manager at the high school level. There's no money in that.

If you’re a top 25 CEO or attorney or something like that you make 5x what a top 25 football coach makes and you make $100k a year at 25 not $0.00 at 25 like football coaches

Dumb thread is dumb

Football coaching or Congress as a representative senator. Politics where your salary doesn’t matter you will still get to a net worth of 10 million over a few years like MTG and retire at a young age
