re: How much power does Tate really have in this decision?

He signs off on the hire. He doesn’t pick or interview candidates but he can also refuse to sign off and create logistical issues where a big shot candidate would throw his hands up and bow out.

All the power. White people will be banned from games soon.
I get it, being anxious about this may seem dumb to some… but you can’t dispute that LSU has made political statements with the football program as of late. Vax requirements for the stadium, putting George Floyd’s colors on TS, racial equity marches, etc…
Based on the current trend - what’s stopping them from meddling in the largest decision in the whole athletic department?

Speaking of vaccinations during a global pandemic being political I can confirm there have been some discussions about involving Fauci in the logistics of interviewing coaches and analyzing their willingness to comply with Covid regulations.

More than you would like, allegedly.

If you think Tate was a left wing renegade about COVID, I don’t know what to say.
Student government passed a vaccine mandate petition by wide margins. Faculty senate was 80-20 in favor of that as well. The votes were non-binding but even after that Tate had very middle of the road, bland statements about how “some people want vaccine mandates, some people are opposed”, etc.
He will only make a decision after he knows he has strong support from a wide range of people.
As a leader, he is typical politician. He knows who he needs to placate to get things done and accumulate power. This board wants to act like he is Farrakhan or Sharpton.
His decision making and public statements simply do not show that. He is a typical leader who talks out of both sides of his mouth while he tries to gauge public sentiment.

They're not about to turn around and let a sociology professor from South Carolina dictate terms to Woodward on the coaching search.
You underestimate Collis Temple and James Williams fever to install a minority HC.

In big organizations an important, course changing decision is never as simple as one person getting to decide. One person may get their way, but others will have to decide to let them have it

Wow. Just occurred to me that the panic over Tate is because you think a black man in power is going to do what white men in power have been doing since the beginning of human kind, hire one of their own no matter how mediocre he might be. I mean the last President and AD pair hired the most mediocre coach on the planet and y’all loved it “‘cause he talk like us.”
Stop shitting your pants, guys. Black people in power can’t afford to be so lazy. . .

Who pays the coach's salaries? It is not Collis Temple. The people that write the checks will have more influence or they will spend their money elsewhere. The state is already hurting financially not having the windfalls from the oil and Gas industry.

Lol. Tell us the list of black coaches that were passed up that are winning championships right now.

That’s not it. It’s because Tate is a fricking psycho Marxist. Have you perused his bibliography?
