OK - what is the Cliffs Notes version in how Fickell compares to SEC play?

I'm perfectly fine with hiring a coach that is so successful, that OSU and ND would try to lure the away. That's called a good hire.

Hiring away Notre Dame's coach.

Never thought about it, but Brian Kelly is a really good coach who has nearly won NC's with good, not great, defensive talent.

I don't know if he'd take the LSU job, but I know for sure he'd win a NC within 5 years if he did.

As I recall Fickell turned down MSU, which would have been a large pay bump, due to not wanting to move.

If he won't go to Michigan I'd be surprised if he would be interested in LA.

Of course coaches say one thing then do another all the time...

I would prefer Fickell at LSU than at Penn State or Notre Dame.

Don't want OSU having to recruit against Fickell in the midwest.

He can't pull any Buckeye prospects to UC, but might be able to at Notre Dame or Penn State.

I thought Fickell had one in HS and one at Cincy. I'll google and report back.
looks like he has a boy that is a freshman at Cincinnati...also has two sets of twin boys:

He also has a girl in high school.

The only question with Fickell is if he would leave Ohio to compete for national championships. That's really all it boils down to. If Fickell is more motivated to keep his family in Ohio, than winning Championships, then LSU doesn't have a shot. I think he would consider the move, and the wife is going to be open to Fickell following his dreams.

If Kelly leaves ND for LSU (Which I doubt), Fickell would be named Notre Dame coach 2 minutes later.

It would be tough to relocate your family at those ages. For any job. Especially if you liked living in Ohio.

Let's face it. Baton Rouge is a hard sell. I think you live in Houston, and so do I, and the quality of life is just better.

Pretty sure any coach who makes a trip to BR realizes BR is not a good fit for him or their family but money talks.

Fickell is in my top two.

I think there’s a connection with him and the Burrow family that many people are missing.

Franklin would be disappointing to me.

If it’s not Fickell or Peterson

I hope it’s not somebody on the list and Woodward hits a surprise homerun

Are there any top tier Catholic schools in Baton Rouge?

Fickell is devout Catholic with 5 kids in school and Cincinnati has some excellent Catholic schools (Moeller, Elder, St. X, Lasalle).

I say yes. Pre-pandemic UCATS (their booster org) brought in about $66 million (TAF is usually around 95 mmUSD). Most schools can... it is a matter of will power and want. They have had big aspirations since 2017. They are now realizing them. They aren't going to want to let it end here. We would have to outbid them and will have to make it too painful for them so that they give up and say for X million we can find equal or better.

Do you think he or his wife see Baton Rouge or Los Angeles as bad fits for them and their six children?

Being a Midwest couple (his wife also went to Ohio State), do you think he might just sit tight at Cincinnati and wait for either the Ohio State or Notre Dame jobs to open?
Wives and kids rarely see ANY change of scenery as a good thing. There's no place like home. This is different, he's never coached or lived anywhere but the state of Ohio. Cincinnati is a better town than Columbus (now a days anyway); it has always been nice and is quite beautiful. At least it isn't in the uber-depressed eastern side of the state (where Burrow is from). Geography does not work in our favor, in the general sense and in the context of uprooting a family.

Absolutely: St. Joseph’s Academy (girl’s high school) & Catholic High (boys high school).

South Louisiana has lots of Catholics.

Don’t most people? I don’t think the hamsters (or gerbils) power TD in Baton Rouge.

Would never send my children to a public school no matter how good you think they are.

If a company offered you double pay and better benefits, plus bonuses and side deals to move half way across the country, would you do it? My wife and kids don't want to move from here but they would get used to it for that kind of future.

Fickell would be stupid to wait around for a top job to come open just because it's local. If you want to be a legend you go to a top 5 program if they offer no matter where they are located. He's losing $3 to 4 million every year he stays at Cincinnati and he could be waiting 5 yrs or longer.

One scenario I see though is Franklin going to USC and Fickell going to Penn St.
