How much can Cincinnati realistically afford to pay Fickell to keep him around?

Can they afford $6 million per year? He is currently paid $3.4 million.

Do you think he or his wife see Baton Rouge or Los Angeles as bad fits for them and their six children?

Being a Midwest couple (his wife also went to Ohio State), do you think he might just sit tight at Cincinnati and wait for either the Ohio State or Notre Dame jobs to open?

Plus, Fickell making the playoffs would complicate matters for any school trying to hire him, especially with the early signing period in December.

Thoughts?

Doesn't matter. They're a stepping stone school.

How the hell could anyone here possibly know that?

How about this? LSU hires Franklin and then Fickell takes the Penn State job.

Not right now, they can't. But I think Fickell knows that Cincy will be part of the next BIG12 TV deal, and he can cash in then. Obviously he wants the OSU gig, and hopes Day will go the the NFL. However, you know how it is with kids in Middle/High school. That means more than money and I could see Fickell staying put.

That being said, I hope LSU offers him $10M a year and gets it done.

Would be a splash hire by the definition of that term.

I thought Fickell had one in HS and one at Cincy. I'll google and report back.

Frick! It's worse than I thought.

Louisiana wouldn’t be nearly as much of a culture change as LA

They’re gonna have some leftover Big 12 money to play with soon. I think they can keep him especially since he’s waiting for a bigger fish to show up.

If he gets LSU job, he would leave for either one of these jobs.

I'm from Louisiana and I'd take a seven figure job in LA without a second thought. Nobody give a frick about culture change.

According to early estimates, they won’t make much more than they currently do in the AAC once UT and OU leave. That TV deal will be even smaller than the PAC 12’s, which is going to drive OSU, Kansas, ISU and TCU to look elsewhere. Once one of them gets an offer to leave, the runt conference house of cards falls.
