I would like Napier because he's one of the best options out there. Simple as that really

They changed their name to call themselves “Louisiana” to try and seem more important than they are. They’re not the official state university of Louisiana either.
If you were a confident/secure individual, this wouldn't matter to you at all

My best guess is that this really only bothers sidewalk LSU fans who didn't even go to school there, or anywhere else for that matter.

ETA: I have affiliations with UL, La Tech, and LSU (via work and school), so I'm relatively non-biased on this matter. I'm even a bigger LSU sports fan, than I am a Louisiana sports fan.

ULL fans are the one with the complex? Go read the last few pages of post and let me know who has the complex.

You're on an LSU message board. If you want to find the hate for LSU, you'll have to view a ULL board. It was ULL that took down every reference to Yvette Girouard at the school because she had the nerve to take the LSU job. There is plenty of hate for LSU in Lafayette, but most of it comes from those associated with ULL.

My diploma says "Louisiana State University and Agricultural and Mechanical College."
In casual conversation, people are going to say "UL" and not "the University of Louisiana at Lafayette."

But why are you concerned about what they call themselves?

I’ve never understood the hate for the Cajuns at all. Still don’t.

I've lived in Lafayette for 20 years.

I lived there for 10 years in the 70s and 80s, and consider Lafayette tied with Tuscaloosa Al as the best places I lived in during my working career. I loved Lafayette and was extremely disappointed when my employer moved me to Dallas. However, despite my love of that city, I saw much anti-LSU sentiment there, such as:

1. Lafayette talk radio - if you listen to that very much you'll be convinced there are a substantial anti-LSU bias there.

2. The USL bookstore had almost as much anti-LSU paraphernalia displayed as USL items.

3. In conversations with locals, the prevailing opinion was that LSU had a hand in USL's basketball team receiving the death penalty in 1973.

4. Many people associated with USL believed (maybe with some justification) that LSU sabotaged their desire to be called University of Louisiana in the early 1980s.

5. Chants of "Go to Hell, LSU" in restaurants on USL gamedays (not directed at anyone in particular).

6. Numerous anti-LSU bumper stickers evident throughout the city.

Go to a Cajun forum for a while and you might have a better appreciation of the why. Believe me, it’s a 2-way street. lol

It wouldn't "piss off" most of us. I think most of our fan base would understand. But hey sure pick your favorite candidate out of your own spite

I made the mistake of going to a ULL tailgate years ago, I saw more Bama flags flying than I did ULL flags, it was really a pathetic and sorry arse situation, that's my personal reason for not liking them at all, other than that I don't think about them

Yeah, I actually root for UL, their success has no influence on ours.

I do and graduated from UL and have yet to see it. Also the stupid myth of being Bama fans

That was 40-50 years ago

There wasn't a single anti-LSU item in the bookstore when I went to school there in the mid-2000's. You'll see many more house divided license plate frames featuring both LSU and UL than you will anti-LSU bumper stickers, etc...

I see more LSU fans on here that are so insecure that they have to attempt to cut UL down every chance they get. It's really pathetic.
Here's one reason.

The "University of Louisiana at Lafayette" is no more the "University of Louisiana" than the "University of Louisiana at Monroe."

Yet all "You People" with wretched excess fantasy "Delusions of Grandeur" call yourselves UL.

Show me a declaration from the Louisiana Legislature officially renaming the school. Until then, stfu with all the UL BS.

Napier brought yall a Top 20 program and there's not even 10-15,000 in attendance at home U.S.L. games. (That's what yall will always be to LSU'ers)

What is anti LSU paraphernalia??

5. Chants of "Go to Hell, LSU" in restaurants on USL gamedays (not directed at anyone in particular).

= You heard one guy shout that one time (likely jokingly) and over 40-50 years it’s grown into some generalized hatred of LSU by the whole city of Lafayette

quote:

How many Lafayette sports talk radio stations were there in the 70s?

3. In conversations with locals, the prevailing opinion was that LSU had a hand in USL's basketball team receiving the death penalty in 1973.

I doubt you can find more than a handful of UL fans under 50 at Cajun Field next weekend that even know this occurred

quote:

4. Many people associated with USL believed (maybe with some justification) that LSU sabotaged their desire to be called University of Louisiana in the early 1980s.

So 40 years ago someone may have thought LSU stopped something from happening that then happened 25 years ago and you think that thought now pervades the majority of UL fans and Lafayette residents

If UL is so beneath you, why do you care what they brand themselves as? The only explanation is that you are insecure as frick

If some poodoo down the street claims he’s the fricking king of Louisiana, do you think I would give a shite?
