Tradition? Yes. But things change, dude. LSU and UGA are much better jobs than UT simply due to the ease of things. Yes, a great coach can succeed at UT, but he has to be willing to work his arse off on the recruiting trail. There's a reason your budget is so damn high.

Would the person betting the UT job be indicative in any way of the quality of coach that LSU might get if Miles was canned?

What makes UG so damn great. And with internet, texting and everything else... it's not like the old days with recruiting of having to sit at momma's table in the backyard of your school to recruit all the time now. UG hasn't done shite lately.

First off, I'm not a UGA fan. I am always changing my logo next to my name. I'm an LSU fan.
Secondly, UGA is better because kids just commit there. There's no real work to get kids to come there. They're raised to want to play for the dawgs. Georgia is a top five state for talent.
UT has to compete with all those states for their talent. Tenn doesn't have the in state talent that most southern states have.

This.
Those schools along with LSU have the luxury of having a strong recruiting base every year without having to leave the state. Then on top of that they can cherry pick some kid from surrounding states.
Tennessee has to go in and battle UGA, UF, Bama, and LSU for kids who have grown up dreaming of playing for the in state school.

I think UT is a top tier job no doubt. Huge stadium, great fanbase, lots of tradition and success.

My question is why Bama over LSU? Is it not much easier to recruit at LSU? Also you are the flagship university in the state, no division of fans or resources.

bama's history and legacy. LSU has had a great decade but it's been decades before then before we were truly relevant.

although the second best program in the SEC historically... Florida, LSU, UGA, and Alabama have clear advantages in recruiting IMO

facilities, campus, location, beauty, history, ability to recruit talent, stadium, fan base, alumni base... all parts of the equation. Notre Dame don't recruit in just their backyard. USC neither. Big programs expand their wings.

I think it's impossible not to think about this issue. It's not hard to draw Miles/Fulmer parallels and what firing the "underacheiving" coach can get you.
I think SFP and others are overstating how poor Tennessee's recruiting base is. Memphis is loaded, though a cesspool. Tenn has some huge population centers, and it also is the big dog who can easily raid Kentucky, Virginia, and the Carolinas. And given UT's budget and tradition, they can even dip into Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi. They have a HUGE natural recruiting area. The neighboring states are devioud of power programs to the east, west, and north.
Tennessee's got tons of money and a huge, rabid fanbase. they also don't have to recruit against Florida and LSU for most of their kids, two of the biggest kids on the SEC block.
I think it's a really good job based on history, money, facilities, and even recruiting. It's no accident they are top 10-15 in wins.

Definitely a great job, but not as "easy" as some of teh other top jobs.
