Big 12 looking to add Houston plus 1 other school?
Only if UT and OU want it to happen

3. UH may actually have an easier path to the CFP, but that's to be seen.
A team from their own conference just won 25 straight and they didn't get close. If WVU plays any defense against the Oklahoma schools they were in the Big 12 title game against a team they beat on the road. Might be 5% chance at WV vs 1% at UH.

And some dumbasses were criticizing UH for canning Applewhite because they want to be better.

WV just lost their head coach to a non P5 school and he only makes 4 Million a year . You guys can’t afford 4 million a year and you think you will keep on winning with out him? You sounds like State fans when Mullen left. This not only makes WV look bad but it makes the B12 look bad. Maybe WV will shock everyone and hire a big name .

I don't see it like that. I think WVU had reservations about investing more money into Holgerson and I think Holgerson wasn't enthused about staying there and going through a rebuild.

Yea but that’s not what happened
Both Dana and the Athletic department wanted a clean break
Neal Brown is rumored to have already accepted the HC position at WVU

I thought it was pretty fricking stupid to fire Applewhite after 2 years; instability and uncertainty at the head coach position is one of the things that's hurt their recruiting for years - no one ever knows if a winning coach will get hired away or if Fertitta will get pissed off and fire them.
But it's obvious now that Fertitta had this worked out w/ Hogo ahead of time and they were only waiting for the buyout to go down.
ETA: I still think UH looks like a clownshow in all of this, desperate to get into a conference that hasn't ever wanted them..

Not sure there’s ever been a better potential fit than Leach at West Virginia in the Big 12 imo
I wouldn’t want Leach at LSU in a million years, it he’s smart and he would probably fit ok at WVU. Definitely a step up in program from Wazzou.

They do. Memphis has passed them on and off the field the last 2-3 years with a less generous sugar daddy (Fred Smith of FedEx) bankrolling the program.

why wouldn't Holgorsen make this move? he's been HC at WVU, what, 7-8 years? what's the life expectancy of a HC these days? One bad year after that long of a tenure and his arse would be fired.
He's just staying ahead of the bad end of the coaching carousel and ensuring long term millions in his bank account. I say good move on his part.

The issue was not not being able to afford Holgorsen. He wanted a contract extension and WVU was just simply not going to give it to him. That, on top of what is sure to be a down year with a fan base that is losing patience is why Dana is leaving. It’s just a good tome for both parties to separate. Honestly, I’m kind of glad he’s leaving.

Lots of reasons to make the move, but no one who's talking really knows which ones motivated him:
Also I believe his wife is from Houston, and his ex and kids from his first marriage live in Houston too. I know for a fact he still lived in Houston while he was at Okie State. Houston seems to be home for him, so to me the move makes sense.

UH positioning itself nicely to be #1 in the pecking order for the power 5 call up

To where? They don’t have the academics or research money for the Big 10, if the Big 12 expands they aren’t adding another Texas school, and the Pac12 won’t add them b/c Cali schools can’t use state funds to travel to Texas due a bathroom law that was passed a few years ago. The ACC is the only conference that might want them but they already have 14 schools and the distance is massive for non revenue sports.

To where?
Probably nowhere. Now that the Big 12 can have a title game without expanding, why would they want or need to? What’s the point? Numbers won’t matter for TV as much, as the days of the massive ESPN contracts is over. They are legitimately struggling with the shift from cable subs to streaming and cord cutting. They won’t have that money to throw around anymore.
The rest of the conferences have even less incentive or desire to expand at the moment. The Big 10 and ACC are more elitist about acedemics, and no commuter school except Rutgers and it’s proximity to New York can overcome that. No way A&M or LSU would stand for Houston, UCF, or any other southern G5 school in the SEC. The PAC 12? I doubt it, but that may be their only shot.
Best they can hope for is an 8 team playoff with one guaranteed G5 bid and an option for a second at-large based on ranking, etc.

WV was only going to pay him about $2M. All about the money. Do they have a SuperCuts in Houston?

UH is looking to get into the Pac-12 and only the PAC-12. Know a guy in the athletic department at UH. They have to meet some financial requirements to be considered, so that is where they are at this point in time.
