Amazing how good coaching makes that happen. Alabama has always had good QB development coaches on staff.

I don't think he employs spread principles enough. I don't want a "pro-set" majority offense. LSU should be lining up 3 wide most downs IMO.

This is exactly what I like about Kiffin...he employs enough spread and reads to make it interesting but not going full high school

I think you think in absolutes. You don't consider any other factors of development in the offense. How about Bama's offensive line? The NFL ranks will tell you how far a good offensive line will take you...just look at the Kansas City Chiefs and they're consistent playoff appearances, or how about this season with Dak Prescott at Dallas? Dallas has the best offensive line in the league, why do you think Ezekiel Elliott was picked to be so productive?

You think Bama's Oline the last 2 years is as good as their 11-12 Oline? Its not even close. Last year was probably one of Saban's worst Olines at Bama, they were horrible at giving up sacks and TFL. This year they are slightly better.

who cares? the guy has had a great O 3 years in a row. the first year he took a converted RB and turned him into a good QB. last year, he took a big strong armed QB that was less mobile and won a title. this year, he has a frosh QB as a possible heisman finalist. we know his offense works in the SEC. what else do you need to see?? Plus, the guy can flat out recruit. AND it would be taking a coordinator from the #1 team in the West we are chasing.

Haters here can say a lot of things about Coach O, but calling him lazy is ridiculous. His work ethic has never been questioned, by anyone. With him getting his dream job, do you really think he's going to take the easy way out & just roll the dice on a position as important as OC?

One QB? Crompton only started one season under Kiffin, and he was senior. Could have been as simple as Crompton having the right experience. Blake Sims again was Alabama. Alabama hasn't had any bad QB's for awhile now. Why does Kiffin get 100% of the credit? Think about what part Kiffin did, and what part Saban/McElwain did. Sims was a senior and only had one season under Kiffin.

Most of family are UT fans, so I see a lot of Vol games, especially with my Dad. Crompton was AWFUL before Kiffin got there. He was a 3 year disappointment. Think Stan White at Auburn in the 90s. Huge disappointment for three years until Jimbo showed up and turned the switch on.

I'm pretty sure McElwain was gone. I think Nussmeyer was the OC there when Sims was coming up, and he ran a much more conservative offense, which is what Saban decided to move away from.

Maybe you are right about Sims. I don't think so, because Kiffin has had solid success with a lot of QBs. Even if you are, what about Coker? Kiffin did have time with him. He wasn't good enough to beat out a medicore Blake Sims his first eligible season, but he suddenly turns into a title-winning QB? This isn't Matt Flynn sitting behind Russell waiting his turn. He lost a job to Blake Sims after a full year in their program after his transfer. You are trying way too hard here, man.

Kiffin has warts. His play calling can get crazy at times, especially when it comes to abandoning the run when he shouldn't. There is legit reason for concern over whether O can reign him in the way Saban does. However, his track record with QBs is rock solid. You are grasping at straws with these arguments.

It is literally the only name we've heard. Have you heard of any others?

Well, he's only suggested Kiffin, who is his friend and someone he's coached with at several places.

He's had offensive success at literally every stop he's made.

Good article on Kiffin adapting

I think it's fair to say Saban brought out the best in him. But Kiffin also brougtho ut the best in Bama. Their offenses have been largely marginal under Saban until Kiffin showed up.

yes because Alabama has QBs rushing for nearly 1000 yards and 10+ TDs all the time

I don't remember Coker doing that. Jalen Hurts isn't as good as Kiffin makes him look. Kiffin designs the offense around his QB's strengths

I remember reading that article and getting depressed...Bama had a coach that realized things had evolved and adapted, while we were stuck with a goober that couldn't accept that

He has been a great OC at USC and bama. HC stints not so great but just recruiting and running an offense he will be lethal in BR.

I bashed the hire so much and was so wrong. He's a good coach and was before working with Saban.

Hopefully he works out here

What do you not like about Kiffin as an OC specifically?

He doesn't know when to run the ball. too cute with the playcalling at times. They were gutting LSU with interior runs but kept going away from it for some reason.

I agree that Kiffin is a very good OC who develops QB's and centers his offenses around their strengths.

But your statement above is false.

Someone (Mastrshake I think) posted extensive stats yesterday comparing McElwain Nussmeier and Kiffin offenses at Bama and they are fairly similar.

The last way you'd describe Bama's offenses under McElwain or Nussmeier would be largely marginal.

I am not a Kiffin fan and don't feel that he would be here more than a year or two. Then O has to find another top tier OC. Plus, with Saban and his DC already knowing Kiffin's offense, Alabama would probably continue its domination of LSU. So, what earth shattering promise would a Kiffin hire bring except more of the good ole boy network?
