Hiring Kiffin seems like a lazy search effort on Coach O's part

Is this a friend hire or a "the best OC to help the LSU offense" hire?

Just seems easy to hire your friend who you've coach with at multiple locations AND just happens to be at a big school getting attention.

Do we know of any other SERIOUS candidates in Coach O's binder other than Kiffin?

I really don't want Kiffin, and I don't think he's that great, and we'd likely have to pay a Bama pricetag, instead of getting a guy that is on the cutting edge of offensive philosophy legitimately waiting in the wings to make this offense new.

I know we've thrown out names, but are there any SERIOUS names ACTUALLY on any lists? Or inside Ponamsky binders?

What do you not like about Kiffin as an OC specifically?

I don't think he employs spread principles enough. I don't want a "pro-set" majority offense. LSU should be lining up 3 wide most downs IMO.

I don't see whats happening at Bama as anything different than years past. Seems like they're doing the same things.

I agree with you. I want to see LSU get the offensive equivelant that Dave Aranda is on the defensive side of the ball.

Yea you don't know football or haven't watched Bama recently. They always run 3 wide
Did Bama ever run zone read or hunh before kiffin?

We are 3 wide almost every play. You have to realize that Kiffin has had a different QB every year since he has been there and this kid we have now just turned 18 years old the other day. Kiffin runs a great offense and it would be stupid for O not to try and get him to LSU.

Will be another 2 mil shelled out for a coordinator. That makes 4 mil/ yr for OC and DC

yes because Alabama has QBs rushing for nearly 1000 yards and 10+ TDs all the time

Kiffin turned Jonathan Crompton and Blake Sims into good QBs. That is an impressive feat all by itself

All of this. Anyone that is turning their nose up at Kiffin hasn't been watching the games. His offense this season with Hurts looks nothing like it did last season Coker. And he's doing it with a freshman QB!

He learned it from his boss. Alleva has made it the LSU way.

SABAN pushed Kiffin to employ spread principles. Kiffin did NOT initiate those facets.

If you evolve, you can’t evolve half way or you end up with an identity crisis. Saban has had no such issue making a transition to the modern game. The Alabama coach surprised some when he hired the brash, young Kiffin as offensive coordinator in 2014. But it perhaps sent the signal that he recognized it was time to usher in some new ideas to his “process.” And here we are in his third season, and the Crimson Tide is spreading people out like Oregon.

quote:

It isn’t Kiffin’s signature offense, but to his and Saban’s credit, they recognized that now is the time to go to it. After all, many in the NFL run it, and the Alabama version sort of resembles what you see in the pro game.

Again, Alabama is not running PURE Kiffin, its Kiffin calling plays, but Saban and the rest of the staff were clearly involved in the offensive philosophy, Saban most notably.

How is this a problem? They were going to drop that coin on a HC, why not fill the obvious gap O brings to the table with the best coordinators you can buy??

Kiffin may be a lazy hire, but it would be the right hire.

For the recruiting alone it would be a good move. O and Kiffin will kill it.

If this O experiment fails, at least he'll leave behind a loaded team.

Thats not 100% Kiffin though. Saban helped as well.

One QB? Crompton only started one season under Kiffin, and he was senior. Could have been as simple as Crompton having the right experience.

Blake Sims again was Alabama. Alabama hasn't had any bad QB's for awhile now. Why does Kiffin get 100% of the credit? Think about what part Kiffin did, and what part Saban/McElwain did. Sims was a senior and only had one season under Kiffin.

But as you know, Orgeron will NOT have that type of input. Saban SPECIFICALLY set out to implement spread principles....Kiffin was NOT initiating that......
