Both of those losses were in his first year. He got a whole hell of a lot better as he got his own players and his system installed.

Herman on the other hand has had four bad games in a row in his second year. The program is getting worse and may continue to do so. Next year could really be bad because more of the previous staff's players will be gone.

Herman has not been a head coach long enough for anybody to determine if he is a good coach or not.

That shows how bad Herman has driven the Houston program into the ground. Gains 303 total yards and loses to a team that gets beat 51-7 by Memphis. But goofy LSU fans don't want the guy as OC, they want him to be the head coach at LSU. WTF?

This dates back further than his 2 seasons as a head coach. He's been highly succesful anywhere he's coached and developed the three headed monster at QB, turning all three of them into Heisman candidates at some point during their time at OSU. Not only that, he was able to RETAIN that talent when 2 of them were demoted, yet didn't transfer. When he was hired away by Houston, the OSU offense regressed and went from #9th in 2014 to 41st in 2015. So, the argument that it was soley Urban Meyer's offense is gone.

If you want to argue that he's only been an OC, you're discounting his head coaching record through nearly 2 seasons (20-3) at Houston with wins over Oklahoma and Florida State. He's also improved their offense from being ranked #58th (2014) to 20th (2015) in his first season as head coach. He's also shown that he's an excellent recruiter by landing a 5 star defensive tackle and has elevated Houston's talent level significantly in less than 2 years.

Anyways, no offense, but Herman is not the unproven commodity you think he is. And saying he's had a bad 4 game stretch is a bit of a reach. He was 2-2, with a loss to Navy. The same Navy team that ate up so much clock against Notre Dame yesterday, that the Irish only had the ball twice in the second half.

I'll grant you that the SMU loss was bad, but he's achieved much more than you're giving him credit for.

At this point, relating to LSU HC, I think what he is doing at Houston is much more important than what he did under other coaches.

Yeah, those two wins were great. He also has lost to UCONN, Navy and SMU. Two of those losses have been in his last four games.

The 5-star's brother was already on the Houston team and Hermster hired his high-school head coach. He won't be able to have both of those things working in his advantage every year.

I don't think it is a reach at all. It is fact. I just checked ESPN again and it is all still there. The scores and all the stats for all to see.

The Irish have lost to Texas, a 2-7 Michigan State who's only other win was against Furman, and Duke.

Well that's an overwhelming understatement. Losing to SMU is pretty horrible. To me, his achievements don't make up for the last four weeks. His team at one time was ranked #6 in the country. Now they can't beat Navy or SMU (who just lost 51-7).

Herman time

Chip Kelly is my clear #1, because he's proven he can build a program; hell, he's proven he can gameplan at the NFL level. (Terrible GM, though...)

If Chip Kelly is unavailable, Tom Herman becomes my #2 choice. I love the idea of grabbing the young coach who can come in, implement his vision (and some of the Urban Meyer system) to the LSU program.

Jimbo Fisher is my #3 choice.

Any of the top 3 are home run hires, however.

Chip Kelly is a grand slam hire that would change the landscape...it would be a Harbaugh/saban level hire.

The issue with chip for me is I'm not a fan of super quick uptemp all the time. It wears down your defense. Plus I hate that bullshite formation his team used to do during the extra point.

Dude is checked out. Also, Houston knows Herman is gone. Makes sense.

It reminds me of the hang over of the Bama game that we will experience in the Arky game.

Fair enough, he's 20-3 as a head coach. How many other current coaches can boast the same record? Saban, Dabo, and very few others.

And he was 18-1 before that. 20-3 in two years at a mid major with wins over Florida State and Oklahoma is outstanding.

You're right, because he will be at a major program soon enough where he has built in recruiting advantages not afforded to a mid major school.

Transitive property logic doesn't work for college football. Some teams are off some weeks and Houston had a bad game against SMU and lost.

Who's achieved more than 20-3 over the past 2 seasons? Who's your ideal candidate?

How is that relevant? You do realize that UCF has a completely new HC this year in Scott Frost, who is one of the hottest names in all of coaching. He's got UCF looking like a completely different team this year. Definitely a program on the upside.

So that point is irrelevant. He won the game.

Navy runs a completely unique system to perfection and routinely beats better teams.

Herman is a good coach. Sorry.

You know Herman is special when the best coaches consulted him on his offensive philosophies. Now if Herman is chosen as the head coach at LSU and somehow Aranda is retained, look out SEC.

Herman took over a hapless UHouston program and has made them a winner immediately. Herman's less talented UH team beat Oklahoma and Florida State. As OC at Iowa State and Ohio State, he was both flexible and innovative with his offenses. He was also a top recruiter at both places.

We fired Gerry Dinardo and hired a guy he beat in a bowl game by 19 points.

Let that simmer for a minute.

20-3 is great indeed. Problem is he has lost 2 of them in the last four games. His team appears, hell not even appears, his team is getting worse. He can't motivate an undefeated and #6 ranked team to play up to their potential against Navy, Tulsa and SMU? This is the guy you want leading the LSU program?

With the previous coaching staff's players. How motivated was Florida State to play Houston in the Chik-Fil-A bowl after being in the playoffs the year before?

What is his record his last four games? For being a mid major Houston has talent. The 51st most talented team in the country - better than Boise St & Colorado just to name a couple. Besides the two good teams you keep mentioning he has had more talent than every team they have played in his two years. He coaches in a little league conference.
#51 - Houston
#76 - SMU
#124 - Navy https://247sports.com/Season/2016-Football/CollegeTeamTalentComposite

If his current trend continues he will be coaching to keep his job at Houston. How will he do next year when more of the previous staff's players are gone? Going by his last month, I would say not too good.

quote:

Some teams are off some weeks and Houston had a bad game against SMU and lost.

And you want the guy who lost to SMU to be the head coach at LSU? So if he was coach at LSU who would LSU's SMU be? Ms St, Kentucky, Vandy? You would be okay losing to those teams?

Who's achieved less over the last four weeks?

Houston was 8-5 in the two years preceding Tom Herman. That's not hapless. That is why he will be looking for a job after next year if he doesn't get his team straightened out pretty soon. Houston doesn't accept mediocrity.
