Arizona State head coach Herm Edwards announced Tuesday that Lewis and former NFL linebacker Antonio Pierce will serve as co-defensive coordinators. They replace Tony White, who left to become the defensive coordinator at Syracuse.

Lewis joined Edwards at ASU before the 2019 season, serving as special adviser. He was the team’s interim defensive backs coach in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl.

Lewis interviewed for the Cowboys’ head coaching job, but they hired Mike McCarthy for the job.

They are going to be the team to beat in the PAC 12 the next few years.

That's a really, really solid hire right there.

Ol Herm ain't playing around, and obviously means business. That's some serious staffage.

I’ve never been more wrong about a hire than I was about Herm.

I thought it was a joke.

Rumored to be on the list for MSU. So this is to keep him at ASU.

You mean he doesn't want an NFL DC job. Pierce will do the recruiting and Lewis will handle the Xs and Os. Plus, Lewis and Herm are tight. You get to work with your potna in Arizona and make money when money is likely not even a pressing concern for Lewis. It's a great situation.

you think a former NFL head coach becoming a college co-coordinator is a good hire? Wow, you are really going out on quite a limb there! So brave.

---You and me both, brother. I thought it was more desperate/sad than a joke, but Herm has been great.

Same.

I predicted an absolute disaster by year 3. Like 2-10 type program. He had no experience recruiting, was an average NFL coach, and had been out of the game entirely for what felt like a decade.

On paper, it was terrible.

Oh, and their AD was his former agent or something like that. Screamed of a situation where a guy hired his friend, which never works.

Good for Herm, seems like a good dude.

After working for Mike Brown and the Bengals, ASU is a step up.

They are killing it in recruiting too, relative to the rest of the Pac 12.

They hired some ace California recruiters and only Oregon did better in there than they did.
