I mean they arent exactly different. All i've heard since we put O as the interm is that the offense looked different and better. And we roll out the exact same offense against bama that we have the last 5 years. Against a Bama team that isnt even unbeatable. We had the turnovers in our favor. We had their freshman QB on the ropes in the first quarter. Could of scored points and never gave him a chance to recover and we screwed the pooch

I doubt Sabans staff could win with LSU vs bama this year

The game plan was poor so yeah that falls on O. Etling did have chances and didn't deliver, though.

well they have but it is still a clm/cc offense. That can't be changed until the off season. CEO has expressed he wants to run a USC style offense.

That missed opportunity after the int hurt...then missing the FG on top of it. I also think Guice needed more carries. I wanted to see more mis direction with qb rolling out and hitting TE. Right now our offense is tailored to beat every team but bama (thanks Les) and we can't change that until we get an oc and some recruits

so what are we to do change our whole offense in 2 weeks?
No sir. He had 7 weeks from the time he was hired to implement new wrinkles into the offense. And here's the catch. He HAD been opening the offense up against the teams we played before. He CHOSE not to do that against Bama, because he thought that was the best way to beat them.

mettenberger was a mobile QB? I guess you would have started Scott? how would the coaches have all of a sudden played a mobile QB?
Mett never scored more than 20 points against Bama. While i would've taken that last saturday, thats not what im talking about and you know it. Etling is not a statue, he can run a little.

is it better to pass from the pocket or try to run when this is the case?
Are those the only two offensive options? many teams have other plays in the playbook.
quote:
how would you have attacked bama?
More shotgun. More 4 wide to get guys spread across the field. And more quick timing throws (slants, 5-10 yd sideline throws), some read option, and RPO. Thats how OM and Clemson have scored against Bama. All things our offense is capable of doing. If etling couldnt do it, put harris in because my dog knew what we were doing was never going to work.
Once again, is that the gameplan you would've gone with if you were HC?

but they had already changed the offense substantially, before the Bama game. That's precisely what the pro-O guys had been saying since he took over. And it was true to a degree.
Why didnt he try those new things? I'm honestly dumbfounded and want to know why he didnt use what had been working. we went uber conservative against a team that you have to take chances to beat. That is obvious to everyone.

wrinkles can be done...entire philosophy change can't be done

its a catch 22 if you ask me. Terrible oline and a weak armed qb aren't the best tools for success against bama...choosing to be conservative worked well for 3 qtrs.

no putting etling on the edge is another...which probably gets him killed with our blocking

I would have liked to see this as well...also more runs from the gun

both those teams have been running that for years

no I would have at least tried some other things or harris

Fair enough. I guess i just think his choice to roll with that gameplan is a bigger deal than you do. It was beyond frustrating for me.

I was pissed off from the first offensive series against bama, and apparently im still a little pissed.
I was there.. I saw the same thing.. I knew he was going to have to take chances to win that game.. I wish we would have done what kiffen did to us.. which was basically run the wildcat.. stick fournette and guice in there and run that.. it puts their attacking defense on its heals.. its not rocket science.. the weird thing is My dad and Morris were talking about that when he visited some of his recruits.. you have to figure out a way to take away their speed.. its called misdirection.. its what they did to us.. I always knew kiffen was a terrific play caller, he just proved it vs us... Aranda did all he could, they were just tired in the end.. Aranda is a fricking rock star.. That was a great chess match to watch between those two...

Just answer one question for me... were you scared the night Trump was elected?

Or just get an OC to run the offense instead of a TE's coach. I think that would go a long way in helping LSU outscore Bama and their referee buddies.

you didnt answer this..
quote:

every offense should have sets/ formations/ plays for every defense they are going to see that year.. its called being responsible.. they do this over the summer watching film.
quote:
mettenberger was a mobile QB? I guess you would have started Scott? how would the coaches have all of a sudden played a mobile QB?
Mett didnt beat them. fail.. we have three on the roster. Harris/ McMillan/Scott they should have gotten a shot.. O coached scared and relied on the defense (Aranda) to pull it out.. thats Miles 2.0 no thanks..
quote:
is it better to pass from the pocket or try to run when this is the case?
You run screens for an over pursuant DL's, you run wildcat or misdirection, you change it up to get them on their heals.. try something to WIN the game, not be scared to just stay in it.. they were the better team.. go for the win..
And Im still trying to find the thread where you owned him.. cause i sure as hell cant find it..

Really, I read in another thread that O knows nothing about offense and shouldn't get any credit for the wins. Now you say he should be blamed for the game plan. Which is it? Is O responsible for the record setting offense and the winning average of 29 points per game or is he only responsible for the offense during the Bama game?

Yeah I pointed out that hypocrisy in another thread. It's ridiculous.

I'd like to see the offense perform against the 1 good defense it's faced since he became head coach. He's faced terrible run defenses the whole time except Bama

Hes the head coach. Hes responsible for the program. Hes the head man. Anything that isnt running correctly falls on him to correct it. So yes it falls on him when we come out and put 150 yards up against bama.

Yeah, since Saban's staff actually has an OC it would be a stretch. But, if they had to keep LSU's TE's coach as OC what he said is probably true. The question would be which side would get the refs.

Kind of exactly the same thing I've been saying. I wish we had the opportunity to see him in the bowl game. But i think we will see more of the same and the same argument will still be in place. People will praise his yardage against a Down year in the SEC.
