wait, are people really saying they wouldn't be ecstatic over hiring Smart?

The guy already recruits in LA, has been under Saban, already an SEC guy, huge name for recruiting, and is a damn good DC.

Kirby Smart would be a slam dunk hire.

that can only mean we're familiar with this guy and don't think much of him already.

A. Most people on here think Smart is just a puppet

B. Hiring Smart would go against the narrative that most of these idiots have accepted

Not only that, but we would be taking from our toughest yearly competition. Saban is NOT their DC.

People said the same about Muschamp. Only a good DC because of Saban.....well....turned out he was a really good DC (not so great HC)

well those people are idiots. They actually believe Saban would just hire on some puppet so that he has to be the HC and DC? And make said puppet the highest paid DC in CFB (up until Chavis' new deal with aTm)?

Even if he is a 'puppet' (which is just flat out ignorant), there's something to be said for learning from one of the best minds in CFB.

Yea, a guy who already recruits LA and is considered a top 5 DC in CFB is fool's gold

this board never ceases to amaze me

I don't think the guy is fools gold, but I don't want him.

If he comes to LSU it's most likely bc we are offering a HCIW agreement. Georgia and Bama's HC position will always be a threat to LSU if we hire Kirby. Also, I would prefer to have an offensive minded coach after Miles leaves.

With the whole "Miles clause" and the way the Michigan fiasco went down, it's obvious Miles' time here is coming to an end. I don't want Kirby Smart solely for the reason that I don't want him to be the next head coach at LSU.

Smart would more than likely be a great defensive coordinator for LSU. I just feel like LSU isn't a great fit for the guy.

He's coached at LSU before and has been in the SEC basically his entire career. He'd be a great fit. I also don't expect any sort of HCIW agreement with him. He could simply be wanting to escape Saban's shadow. You can't refuse to hire someone who may be great simply out of fear you may lose him in 2-3 years.

I have ZERO interest in a hire whos main motivation for wanting to leave his current situation is so that he can improve his stock at LSU and eventually move on to somewhere else.

That's pretty much EXACTLY what you want when you have a short-timer at head coach.

uhhh well guess what? That's going to be the case for pretty much any hire we make.

Chavis was an exception to the rule, not the standard.

LSU is an absolute wonderful fit for him.

It's probably the only other school he'd even consider going to, it's perfect for both sides.

I don't see him as a head coach in waiting. I do see him as a 1-2 year guy, and that is perfect for LSU right now.. this late in the game. I would rather have the best stop gap for right now and have a better search with better timing in 2 years.

Smart would get the recognition he deserves and become a HC at another program in maybe 2 years, but you don't pass on him if he's willing to come here.

Also, people are silly to say he is just a puppet and it's Saban's defense, then what the F was Will Muschamp? Lol another puppet? No.. these guys ARE defensive coordinators for a reason and they are among the best for a reason.

There is absolutely no other guy you would want more than him, he can help maintain recruiting, heck even possibly swing someone this late in the game. He can keep the defense at an elite level and I love that he has proven actual college DC experience and is a name brand.

I have absolutely no issue if he wants to leave in a year or two, like I said.. then you have better time to prep for that then or better candidates. Or even at that point there may be a new direction entirely.

If you're implying Miles isn't invested into the program at LSU, you're either using entirely too much hyperbole to make a point or delusional.

x's a billion. remember.. he coached here first.

lol you take the best, even if it's just for 2 years.. then you hire the next best guy. YOU WANT GREAT coaches at LSU.. and LSU will always be attractive.

I have 100% interest for the best right now and keep the program at elite status. Especially a program known for great D.

I like to win, period.

If we land Smart without a HCIW type agreement I'll be ecstatic, and anyone who says they wouldn't be is lying.

Hard to argue against anything you guys have stated
