I second that! He would make the most out of lsu's offensive talent. You know that he would accept the job tomorrow.

He would adapt the offense to him. I don't think I want him as a HC compared to some of the other names, but the one thing I wouldn't doubt...Him having Mettenberger lighting defenses up.

And if those were the only two job qualifications he would be an excellent choice. Unfortunately they aren't, and he isn't.

If we hired Malzahn and retained Wilson along with the defensive staff I have no doubt we would finish in the top 10 next year.

agreed. the malzahn love is pretty short sighted imo. we have no idea what if this guy can run a program of lsu's size long term. there is more to being a head coach than being a good oc.... a LOT more.

What are you talking about? Malzahn called up 2 plays tonight that could have gone for touchdowns if the ball was caught or not over thrown. He can only call the plays, not do the stuff on the field.

The best way to stop the Oregon offense is keep them off the field. Gus has been doing a real good job at moving the ball.

So you wouldn't have hired Muschamp. Florida just hired a coordinator.

Malzahn adapts his offense to what his team is built for. At Shiloh he had a pocket passing QB which broke national high school records for touchdowns in a season. At Springdale he had a pocket passer which was the gatorade player of the year. At Arkansas Dick wasn't that good, he put McFadden in at RB and showed options in his plays. At Tulsa he had more of pocket passing QB's. With Todd at Auburn he was more of a pocket passing offense. And now with Cam they are dangerous cause he can pass and run.

Anyone who thinks Malzahn is only good because of Cam is a idiot and doesn't know much about him other then watch maybe a few games this year.

Its a risk, but not risk = no reward. LSU is at an elite point where a HC should be hired, not an assistant.

Disagree. Florida hired Muschamp. Florida is probably a bigger gig than LSU. Most of our fanbase would be thrilled with a Muschamp hire. Also top notch HC's usually already have top notch jobs and complicated circumstances which make it difficult to leave. It severely limits your talent pool. If someone sits down in front of you and blows you away and their body of work is impressive, you take an intelligent risk.

EFF Mett, if we get Malzahn I'd like to see him move Shep or Ware back to Qb. If you going to run the spread or that power version of the spread like Malzahn and Myer run put you a horse at QB who can tote the rock. 99% their passing attack is play action trying to catch your arse camping in the box.

f*&K Gus Malzahn and that gimmicky offense. Give a power running game with an efficient qb and a strong d anyday.

Ya.. that elite offense last year really did some major damage last year. Or am I just purposefully forgetting.

At Arkansas, Dick actually got hurt in the 1st or 2nd game of the season and the Gatorade Player of the Year you mentioned, Mitch Mustain, played the majority of the year for them and did not lose a game I believe when he started and then Dick got healthy, put him back at starter and they began losing. But Arkansas had a great year that season and we're leading the SEC West the majority of the season with Mustain (freshman pocket passer) starting.

So you're saying right now that Newton and Dyer aren't power runners?

The basic concept of his spread offense is a multi-option offense. Moves players around, gets the D out of position and their are number of options on the play. QB can throw or keep the ball, hand off to the RB, hand off to the WR on sweep, throw, etc.. He attacks the defense.

Just looked it up and Mustain was 8-0 as a starter for Arkansas in 2006 under Malzahn's system.

There is no way so many people on this board think this would be a good hire. He has Cam Newton, let me repeat, Cam Newton! Miles would look like an quartbacks coach genius if we had Newton. If we hire Malzahn, not only will we have made a monumental blunder, but I will jump off of a bridge. How is it possible that many people think this would be a "great" hire.

Arkansas lost to USC, LSU, Florida, and Wisconsin that year. Florida was SEC Title game. Wisconsin was bowl game.
Those 4 games Mitch did not start. Dick got healthy and Nutt wanted to go with his plan instead of Malzahns. After season Malzahn leaves, Mitch and Damian leave.
