No one worth his salt wants to follow the Goat. Now with NIL, 12 team playoff etc, much more difficult. It is still a great job but smart coaches want to be coach hired after the coach is fired after Saban’s retirement.

No one hired now will ever be able to compare with 6 national championships at bama 7 overall. Basically made two SEC schools national powerhouses and contributed to 9 national Championships in last 20 years. That’s unreal

I’m sure they’ll be fine.

I really thought this would be a clean transition to his successor though.

They’ll easily be able to get Lanning, Kiffin, maybe Sark. No one is Saban but they’ll be ok.

Afraid not. He built up their program and facilities too much for them to just take an abrupt nosedive

I think Dabo gets it.

..with Clemson’s recent struggles and the ACC getting screwed, he leaves if Alabama comes calling.

Agreed.

The expectations will be insane. Why leave a far less stressful job where you are paid well to enter almost a no win situation?

If he doesn’t change his opinions on the portal and NIL, Bama isn’t calling.

Exactly. Dabo saying to hell with the portal and nil is ok for the dopes at Clemson, but that won’t fly with the “win at any cost” lunatics in Tuscaloosa.

They will still be a player, but maybe not as dominant. Michigan just shot up to #2 or #1 on the CFB food chain for a while with Texas for the time being #3. Bama we be relegated to the 5 - 8 slot

Do they want it though?

WhoTF wants to follow a legend and the MASSIVE amount of pressure that’s going to be on them to replicate what Saban did.

Yikes.

They’ll be fine but yeah it’s been 17 years of high expectations. Hard to continue that. No coach is replicating what he did
