Of all the coaching moves the Seahawks have made so far this offseason – and even of those that may still be to come — the one that on the surface has seemed the least explainable is the firing of defensive coordinator Kris Richard. True, the Seahawks’ defense fell off in Richard’s third year as DC — to 13th in points allowed after ranking first every year from 2012-15 and then third in 2016. But much of that appeared attributable to the injuries that hit the defense as well as the inconsistency of an offense that too often did little to keep the opposing offense off the field.

Kris Richard was instrumental to the formation of the Legion of Boom defensive secondary. He helped coach and develop players such as Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas, Kam Chancellor, Brandon Browner, Byron Maxwell and for his rookie season only, Shaquill Griffin. Kris Richard was just let go by the Dallas Cowboys. He has ties to Pete Carroll, and so does Coach O. Pete Carroll's defenses have always been stout at USC and in the NFL.

Have to believe some NFL team will pick him up. But yes I’m all for it.

Guy has been in the NFL since 2010, he isn't coming back to coach in college.

Does he like recruiting?

Recruiting is why Brady went to the NFL, some guys just do not like that part of the job and Orgeron puts high priority on recruiting.

Out of the options named so far I like Richard and Chizik the best.

Richard is super aggressive. Stingley, Flott, etc. will be grabbing and tugging and forcing the refs to make the call.

Chiz was responsible for UNC not sucking for a change.

I can think of $2-2.5 M reasons he'd come to LSU.

Plus with what he did with creating the Legion of Boom, what could he do in elevating DBU even more?

Only problem is he won't be here long. It will be a NFL coach in a couple years. But still go try to get him.

People say that but you never know. Getting paid Millions and always having elite talent can be enticing rather than dealing with diva players always complaining about their money in the NFL. Also always being the scapegoat when shite goes wrong. I’d personally love to coach In College vs the NFL

Probably being nit-picky, but if he was instrumental in creating the Legion of Boom would there be a possibility of conflict between what he and Raymond want?

Pete was probably forced to. Carroll and Richard had been joined at the hip for a decade.

I can't imagine Pete being forced to do anything.

I would love to know why after only 2 seasons at DC he was let go and also why no one else picked him up as DC?

That does give me concern..

Here is what I found: basically team was injured a lot in that last year and Richard May have blitzed too much for Carroll’s liking.
