agreed. Why even bother having coaches if that's true?

If Gary stays, I see it playing out as a 2 QB system again... with Mett taking the bulk of the snaps and JJ doing running QB duties.

This bugs me ... if Mett is any good, there's no reason we need a running QB.

n if you guys do then you should use Shep. He has rare running ability that Jefferson doesn't.

But that won't work. It doesn't work with someone that poses no threat to throw the ball... or so i've heard...

i give you that. we'll disagree on "development". i just don't believe in it. i believe the player is the player. it's up to player, his God given ability and his desire to be great.

Urban Meyer made a helluva career at Florida with all his eggs in the Tim Tebow basket. He was 48-7 in 4 years with Tebow. In 2 years without him, he was 17-8 and "retired" this year, because losing wasn't any fun.

Gene Chizik put all his eggs in the Cam Newton basket, and it's paid off.

that's fine. maybe i'm wrong. i've looked at a number of o.c.'s and qb's pro and college and just found this angle to be flawed.

I just don't understand how a coach, let say jimbo, can "develop" davey, jamarcus, mauk, flynn, ponder but can't "develop" rick clausen, marcus randal, xavier lee, drew weatherford, or e.j. manuel.

you can do the same with everyone of them. mike martz, chow, ect. they have successful and good ones and they have bad ones. why do the one's that succeed develop and the others don't?

some didn't work hard enough, some weren't given enough time, it varies by person.

E.J. Manual signed FSU the same year Pat Peterson signed at LSU.

Their success has clearly been equal

both did for some amount of time.

Manuel has had to back up Christian Ponder (likely a 2nd round pick in the draft this year)

Manuel's career is far from over at FSU.

one, randal never played qb in n.f.l. think he was a free agent and looked at for safety.

two, weatherford was benched at f.s.u. in favor of ponder. wouldn't consider that a success.

three-e.j. manuel is in the same class as jordan jefferson. he started the florida game last year and didn't perform well, he started the a.c.c. championship game against v tech and didn't perform well. considering andrew luck, who i believe is a year younger, played against v-tech and solidified himself as the number player to be drafted. e.j. was the #1 qb in the country out of high school.

four-martz coached the greatest show on turf with warner. however, couldn't do anything with alex smith at the 49ers. john kitna was still john kitna with the lions during martz time there.

that's my point. it's up to the player and their talent. some don't have the talent, some do and don't work at it, some work hard and have good ability but not great ability, and some have great ability and work hard at it to be great.

the coach only can do so much. At the end of the day, it's like teaching. you can't make every student an A student. Only the Student can make themselves an A student. No matter how good you are, you will have B students, C students, D students, and F students.

wrong. he played qb then safety then lb.

Ponder is a great qb. Few qb's would start over him.

ej manuel's career isn't over yet. He actually played pretty well against VT. He completed over 70% of his passes, had a td pass, and threw for almost 300 yards.

he was only there for a year.

he threw for over 4,000 yards and 15 td's a year. He had his best years by far in Detroit under Martz.

agreed. But earlier you made it seem like the coach had no impact at all.
