The Bear loved Cholly Mac and the gumps love Les Miles. I mean, they don't get why the fan base is divided. Go figure.

The problem with Michigan is the dysfunction right now
No big time coach wants to touch it right now because of the uncertain AD position - he may or may not get the job.
Who will your boss be?
Michigan should have hired an AD first and foremost but now you have two high profile positions open and too much uncertainty out there.
Plus what is Michigan willing to pay. If they are not in the $4 million range you can kiss Miles and any other big time coach good bye.
Numbers may be holding them back

misey94 , you are so correct sir , that I am going to repeat it here forthwith :
***********************************************************************
If you want to go off of Saban's performance at Bama, sure. However, he had plenty of games where he got out coached and was overly conservative in his tenure here. His 3 loss SEC title in 01 was backed into the same way Miles' 07 BCS title was. He had one dominant team, a great finish in 01, a solid building year in 2000, but a horrible season in 02 and a pretty mediocre one in 04, as well.
I guess many of you have also forgotten how Saban and Fisher handled the QB situation in 04, when Marcus Randal, who was only slightly better than Jennings, started over a more talented but not quite ready JR. And how about the never-ending revolving door of assistants, many of whom made lateral moves just to get away from Saban because of how he treated them.
Looking at Saban now, you don't see ANY of these things. His offense has gotten more wide open. His assistants are very loyal. He doesn't seem to be as much of a jackass. Despite early criticism, it looks like he handled his touchy QB situation this year pretty well. He keeps on winning big, no matter what.
Don't get me wrong. As a pure, pound for pound coaching talent, Saban is the best who has ever come through the doors at LSU. But in terms of success while here, his actual performance isn't any better than what Miles has pulled off. It isn't about what could have been if he had stayed. It's about what Saban actually did here. His performance at Bama has no bearing on that, which muddies the water. It's so different, and so much better in many ways that's it's easy to forget or gloss over the flaws in the past.

happens every time a coach has a good year. it seems people have very, very short memories.

btw, there are MANY LSU fans that appreciate Miles also. they don't post on here but that doesn't mean they aren't out there. this board is NOT representative of LSU fans and is heavily monopolized by young people that have way too much time on their hands and really don't know shite about football or the "real" world. just read some of their posts. they will not be happy until one of their "coach dejours" comes to LSU and oversees an offense that amasses lots of yardage. they don't give a shite about defense. they just "assume" we'll win titles by gaining lots of yards.
I agree. The entitled ones. The ones that always win and get a trophy. fricking Vince Lombardi could be resurrected and hired and they would bitch about it. And half of them never even went to school there.

they gang up b/c they can only be negative on an anonymous blog board.
they are cowards who can't be this negative in life, otherwise they'd be dead.

They would rather be right than LSU be good

Lol I have been following lsu sine the early 80s. Miles is on borrowed time not because he isn't capable but bc he is stubborn. Just liked DiNardo. Nothing wrong with wanting to be great.

You can't deny there is a vocal segment of the LSU fan base that roots for failure so they can have their "see I told you so" moment

No big time coach would like to be remembered as the guy who turned Michigan back into a powerhouse program? Okay.
Looks more and more like Hackett is going to be the guy. If he lands a big time hire, the job is his.

Ain't that the truth. Some of these posters are way too anal. I do not lose sleep over LSU football nor do I let it dictate my mood. I never pull against LSU but I've never liked Les Miles being our HC.
I think Les Miles is arrogant, stubborn & genuinely dislikes a lot of the fan base. His offenses and QB's development are ridiculous. Les racks up W's against the weak & mediocre teams as he should, but loses against the better SEC teams that takes LSU out of the SEC race.
I think I'll go kick a puppy now.

You're right, Les' offenses and development of QB's are the gold standard that all BCS schools strive to be like.
