Brian Kelly has basically admitted hes reached his ceiling at Notre Dame. He will be in the NFL soon.

LSU went 5-5 in 2020 and fired half the staff.
Notre Dame in 2020 went to the CFP playoffs.

The last 8 times ND has made a BCS bowl, they have been whooped by 27 points or more. Just because you beat the academy schools and a few pussy arse acc schools doesn’t mean you belong. People are questioning if they should get the benefit of the doubt again.

By the way, Acc 0-6 in bowls this year.

You know how many rings Kelly has? Zero. O has one last year.

Dear Marcus, would you like one of these rings? Well, your not getting it at ND with Brian Kelly!??

As pissed as I am about O’s hiring of Pelini and Linehan and the distraction he created with his sugar baby, I don’t think Kelly is better than O

On the other hand, you can be the "difference maker" at ND and give them that last little push to get over the hump that they were missing this year.

Freeman would not be the difference to push ND over the hump. ND lacks playmakers on offense. ND will never be able to match Bama, LSU, Clemson, Ohio State with the skill positions matchups. His defense would be solid at ND for sure, his defense at LSU could be GREAT with the athletes on the roster.

Says who—the sports media that build ND up every year until they are talked into the CFP & get an a** whipping?

LSU has 3 NCs since 2003–how many does ND have?

Any coach worth their salt would think they can at ND with Kelly, especially since they made the playoffs THIS SEASON and their issues seemed to be on defense (and Freeman is a DC).

As a top tier DC, I'd be looking at ND like *I* can be the difference maker and the reason they make it to the championship, maybe even win it. They were a legit DC away from making it this current season, whereas LSU is a slight mess right now and O's future is uncertain.

Most coaches are confident in themselves, and any DC would be salivating at the opportunity to be the "missing piece" that gets ND over the hump. HC opportunities would certainly come calling after that. But at LSU the future is uncertain and the defense could be amazing while the offense stutters, leading to Orgeron and the entire staff being let go. That DOESN'T lead to HC opportunities.

In short, LSU is missing a few pieces and has a HC whose seat is somewhat warm. ND is missing a legit DC.

I still think he ends up at LSU, but it's not a foregone conclusion like some here believe.

He has done well with the constraints of coaching at a school like ND...O has two important jobs; hire the very best coordinators and close recruits. The last 10 months have not served O well.

Anybody thinking it’s a no-brainer to choose LSU over Notre Dame isn’t living in the real world. Can we offer more money? Of course. But LSU fans always, always discount quality of life. This dude has been in the Midwest his whole life—maybe he’s more comfortable there and can continue to foster the relationships he’s already made with the high school players and coaches in that part of the country.

Maybe he doesn’t want to basically start over somewhere else geographically where he only plans to be a couple of years until gets a HC job. Maybe he or his wife hates the heat and humidity of south Louisiana. Or the fact that Louisiana ranks just about dead last in education and other quality of life metrics. Maybe he respects Kelly’s offensive football mind and wants to learn how he attacks defenses, making Freeman that much better of a defensive coach. And I don’t think “rings” matter a whole hell of a lot to assistants. Of course they want to win championships for the players they love, but championships are usually just feathers in the caps of the players and HCs.

I’m certainly not saying LSU has no advantages over Notre Dame—we obviously do. But we have absolutely no idea what factors are most important to any particular coach. It’s not always money or level of competition. I want Freeman bad—I hope we don’t let him get out of Baton Rouge without signing a contract. But without knowing him and what’s important to him, I’m. Im just not sure we can just say “We’re LSU, and we can offer you $1 million more than Notre Dame and better players” and have it be a super easy decision for him. The fact he’s scheduled to meet with them after us is a little scary. I don’t think it’s the slam dunk most of you think it is.

The last time ND won a championship was 1988. Marcus Freeman was 2 years old.

Let’s be real neither he nor his family will experience any of that with the money LSU will be paying him

I don’t think anyone here is calling the hire a slam dunk. You have people responding to each other arguing 2 different sides of the same coin. I believe LSU has a slight edge on ND due to exposure and money. I believe that outweighs geographics bc he would only be making the move for a couple years. However, no coach would be embarrassed to say they worked at ND unless they had already reached the top of their career.

Brian Kelly is as big of a doofus as Coach O is. The only difference is Kelly tries to cover it up with Yankee smugness while O wears his on his sleeve.

What are you talking about? They had a legit DC, which is why he was offered a head coach job at another school. Notre Dame lost because they are still not at that level yet. It has more to do with talent than DC.

Well, things have moved quickly, as Irish Illustrated has learned through a source that Freeman was actually at Notre Dame on today, on Tuesday, as he was interviewing for the defensive coordinator opening. We will do what we can to find out exactly how things went. We do know that Notre Dame was hoping to have the last crack at him later this week, but it seems this visit fit Freeman's schedule best.

We’re told Freeman will now head to Baton Rouge for an interview at LSU, which is expected to take place either Wednesday or Thursday. Regarding other potential opportunities, we're told to continue keeping an eye on Auburn, Texas and Michigan.
turns out he interviewed today with ND
