How would Riley or Jimbo do at Iowa State? My guess is not as good as Campbell.

We’re not hiring them to overachieve at a bottom tier program where there are no expectations. We are asking them to run a top tier program, something both have done well.

Coaching don’t mean shite if you can’t recruit.

LSU is not hiring Campbell, Woody is looking for a champion coach, Campbell is not a Champion as a head football coach.

Think Big, someone that has been to playoffs or at least has won his conference a time or two.

You don't understand anything more than a winning percentage record? Some coaches have to build a programs at places that have not won much before and some coaches get promoted to a prime job with a winning culture and long history of winning. Just reverse the situations with the coaches and ask yourself honestly who is the best coach.

So Riley or Fickell basically. What if we can't make Riley take our money and Fickell doesn't want to leave the midwest?

Matt campbell 76-48..... mediocre at best.

So averaging 8 wins a year at a place that historically is a 4 win program at best. Not too bad imo.

I hope they don’t look up Saban’s record at Michigan State.

He can build a program.

Jimbo is not coming. Riley's probably not coming. You guys think LSU just saying they want a coach means those are viable options.

Exactly. We’ve got a fan base that is fragile after the Alleva (and even Skip Bertman) era. We have an AD that understands what it means to be a top 5 program and spend the money that allows you to go get an elite coach.

Someone said earlier you can’t make them accept an offer just because you want them. I disagree, when you’re willing to commit the resources, you can put up big enough numbers to make them say no.

We are not shopping in the bargain bin, we are spending the money that warrants an elite coach.

Campbell isn't my #1 but Iowa State is a bottom 10 power 5 program. It's like coaching at Vanderbilt or Rutgers in football.

I love the tight-lid search and misinformation, but this crap is getting ridiculous.

So how high do you want to go? $15m a year to a guy that's been to the playoffs 3 times without a win? And people want to laugh at A&M for the Jimbo contract?

If that’s what it takes. I’d much rather take my chances with coaches with those resumes than Campbell’s.

Stop thinking small.

ETA. Matt Campbell is a Joe Alleva type hire.

If all it took was writing the biggest check Texas would have Saban. They can write a bigger check than anyone.

If being the highest-paid coach at a more successful program as of late isn't enough for Riley then he doesn't want to be here.

Overpaying him to a point where he couldn't refuse the money doesn't make us an elite program, it makes us desperate.

Hiring Matt Campbell when we have the budget for $12MM + makes us look desperate.

Would rather look desperate with Riley or Jimbo (or any other coach that consistently competed for conference titles) than one who has never dealt with any expectations.
