Riley is just probably trying to get more money from USC because that’s what he does. It’s gonna be interesting to see what Penn State does. If Penn State doesn’t hire a drink, I think LSU fans need to get ready for that. I’m thinking Marcus Freeman’s trying to get more money too. Kiffin is such a wild card who know what he’s gonna do. I called Brian Kelly last time. I’m lost on this one. Unfortunately, if I had to make a bet, I would go with drink being the guy right now.

Good point. Doubt either of those guys are our coach next year though

What has any coach that LSU could realistically get won

Nothing. Yet people hold Lane in a regard like he actually HAS won something and didn’t fail at 3 places, so well with Nick Saban, then punch above his weight at FAU and ole miss for a few seasons.

He was 8-1 in 22 as well and lost to bama. Team quit with the auburn rumors.

Eh those 10 win seasons are counting meaningless bowl wins 2x and you have an 8-5 and 5-5 mixed in there too. Before this year he had been pretty good to good, no where near great and even that remains to be seen this year as their schedule has been fairly soft. Riley and Lane really are very similar in almost every aspect, Lane is just a little hotter right now but going into the season it would have been a wash. Riley has had more career success as a head coach. I'd take Lane right now just because of momentum but those acting like there is much difference are being prisoners of the moment

I don’t have a say so in this coaching search, I have opinions only- but the difference is Kiffin has tougher skin and has been in the grind of the SEC for years. Riley imo only, is soft and a perfect fit at USCs soy boy image. He probably was devastated when soon after arriving at Sunny Cali the PAC12 was dissolved and moved to the BG1.
There’s no way he can take the pressures of the SEC and certainly the pressure of the LSU world. CBK won the SECw his first year and got a little cocky, also his recruiting coordinator SPT coach(names escapes) was challenging the media in the first yr(go look at press conferences) then they got cut and bled in the water- Sharks attacked- the rest is history. Lincoln will never be ready for this job.

One is a proven winner in the SEC, the other is not.

True. Has Kiffin made a playoff yet? How many NY6 bowls?

would you prefer Drinkwitz over Riley?
i know this wont be a popular outlook but id probably choose Drinkwitz. We already know what Reily can do with a huge football first program with 2 stops at those types of universities. Hes fallen short because his teams are usually soft.

Drinkwitz has been at App st and Mizzou and we havent really seen what he can do with a big dog program with all the resources that we've already seen with Reily.

Secondly, we just experieneced 4 years of softness because of BK. Drinkwitz already experienced the toughness and has been successful in this league.

Adding, i dont like paying the hefty price tag and terms that both of these coaches would command because I dont think it would be worth it to us.

I think if we are considering Riley….

LSU would be in the hiring stage where any and all quality candidates took other jobs or rejected LSU offers straight-off !!.

In short, there is no one left but “bottom of the barrel” candidates and we have no other choice….. as SOMEONE has to sit in the coaches chair !!

I’d take him over Drink. But he’s kind of got a fallen star vibe compared to the last search.

Riley / Kiffin. Same horse of a different color. Good coaches but not sold on if they are home runs

I agree with your take. Just think about the possibilities of keeping the defensive staff that has proven itself this year, with a Lincoln Riley offensive staff./scheme. It make a lot of sense to me. The only downside is that so many Tiger faithful are still pissed that Riley left us at the alter 3 years ago.

I'm opposed to Riley because his teams are soft. They don't play with physicality and he doesn't care about defense. That worked for him in the Big12. It exposed him in the Big Ten. It certainly won't work in the SEC.

Riley would be a TERRIBLE hire, imo.

They play a soft schedule, same as last year. 2 quality opponents going 1-1, same as last year.

I like Lane too. But OM schedule avoids Bama, aTm, UT, Mizzou, Tenner, Vandy, basically every team at the top of the SEC.

He mostly wins when he’s supposed to, and impressed on the road vs OU. That’s good coaching.

Kiffin’s offenses often are among the leaders in the running game and the passing game
