so can we just stop with dismissing coaching candidates out right without at least giving them a chance to be looked at and interviewed and considered?

Arguments can be made against every one of these guys:

Fisher- losing this year with top rated talent. Getting arse handed to him by Louisville. Offense scheme plays right into Bamas defense strengths. Old and possibly overrated and would have to overpay to pull him away from Fla St.

Coach Orgeron_- failed as a HC at Ole Miss. Has never been a coordinator.

Herman- Not a lot of experience. Losing games this year.

Fleck- only been a HC at a small school

Fedora- was a HC at Southern Miss (same school that curly Hallman came from). Not known for good defenses.

Kelly- bad personality and not known to be a good recruiter. Is a NFL HC right now anyway.

At the same time each of those coaches have numerous plusses to there resumes and abilities and anyone of them would be a huge upgrade over what we have had in the recent past.

so can we stop with this dismissing of them out of hand especially with so much time left in this season. If anything, more names need to be brought into the mix such as Willie Taggart at South Florida and possibly many other qualified coaches. Seems we keep having the same arguments over and over again about the same 3 names.

If its not broke dont fix it. Meaning if O wins out keep him aboard. Nothing is broken so why fix it?

Why don't you let him win out before dismissing every other possible option we have?

Why is everyone calling Jimbo old? The dude is 51. You guys talk like he's got a foot in the grave

Jimbo is old? He's 51. That is still young for a head coach. He could coach 13 years at LSU and still be younger than what Saban is now.

And how does his offense play into Bama's D? He actually uses multiple receiver sets and throws the ball down field and to the outside. Miles with his 22 personnel and running it up the gut into a stacked box played into Bama's D.

Not saying Jimbo should be the guy. Just that he's not old and his offense is much more diverse and modern than what Miles and Cam ran. That said, I do agree with the overall point that each possible candidate has flaws.

as fans, none of us are doing interviews, we can only evaluate candidates based on what they've done and how we think that will translate going forward. There are no guarantees and there is no magic success formula. So yes, there are pluses and minuses, pros and cons to each coach. Some of them are valid other are not so we can hash those out. Anyone singling out games from this season or getting hung up on the name of the team the loss occurred to, frankly are too short sighted and don't understand what makes a good coach.

Jimbo is 9-6 in his last 15 games and is on to have his worst recruiting class since 2007. Also, he's lost his last two bowl games in embrassing fashion.

I like Jimbo, but the OP is correct. There's no perfect candidate, and it's pointless to have discussions while ignoring the drawbacks of each candidate.

Who ignores drawbacks? You list out the pros and cons and if the pros outweigh the cons, you go with that. Getting hung up on short term results is a terrible way to evaluate a coach.

This board can be painful to read. At this point, it's pretty reasonable to have an open-mind about most of the top candidates (Fisher, Herman, O). However, few of the posters here are open-minded. Just my take.

I AGREE. All 3 of those are solid candidates along with several others that should be considered. At this point to say that Coach O or Fisher or some other possible coach is totally unqualified and shouldn't be interviewed seems pointless. I especially don't get the anti coach O crowd when no one even knows yet how things will turn out for LSU the rest of THIS season. Makes no sense to me.

If limit the search to "elite" coaches then I guess LSU won't ever get a new head coach. The "elite" coaches already have solid jobs that they don't plan on leaving any time soon. We are going to have to pick from the group that has blemishes and hope they can become elite here at LSU.

Fischer's offense is producing with a freshman at qb and terrible O line play. If florida state had a solid defense that was consistent, they might be undefeated right now.

Jesus

Fischer's offense is probably exactly what you want when playing Bama. They push the ball down the field and have a mobile qb who can run when needed or called upon. Have you seen Bama's secondary the past couple of years?

He's not old. Fischer has some cons, but the ones you listed are pure crap

yeah, well, that's true

Everyone will have their favorites and some will have candidates they absolutely do not want. What has become painfully obvious is this board is no where near as good when LSU has an opening

This is what people are scared of with the Pro-Oers

Winning 3 games is enough apparently

Fisher is losing because his defense is awful, because they wont pay a good DC. Thats an easy fix.

I still think Herman has a higher ceiling. Also would bring some instant offense.

I don't think it's fair to say Chip Kelly wasn't a good recruiter. He didn't seem to enjoy it very much but he got plenty of athletes to come to Oregon to play for him. He didn't massacre the pac 10 with scrubs.

No because one candidate has dramatically more drawbacks than any of the others as evidenced by the fact that he has one of the worst records in SEC history

youre just gonna keep saying that over and over arent you, even though its not even close to true.

forget the SEC, he doesnt even have the worst history at Ole Miss. before Freeze, most of their HCs had records just as bad as Orgerons. that program has sucked for 50 years, it has nothing to do with O.

Cutcliffe is the ONLY ONE to even have a winning record in the SEC, and that was 25-23. even Tubberville was 12-20.

Kinard

Cooper

Sloan

Brewer

Tubberville

Cutcliffe

Orgeron

Nutt

He and Steve Sloan are the only 2 not to have a winning record.

Would you be prepared to give Sloan the LSU job based on interim stats?
