He’s work 10M a year easy. I like Elko

I don’t think extensions after less than two years is smart.
What happens if he shits the bed the rest of the season? Can we start letting these guys coach half their contracts before giving them even less incentive to keep trying?

Keeps Penn State from being able to tempt him with a better contract

Extending Elko based off the weakest SEC schedule in the history of the conference is bold
Obviously would be nice if this backfired

Elko’s success will always depend on his OC hire

This is so on par for Aggy to make him one of the highest paid coaches

I don’t get these schools.
Elko signed a 6 year deal in late 2023.
Yes, he is having a great year.
But why re-up another 6 year deal right now?
They don’t know if this a one off season with him.
It doesn’t seem necessary at all.
Let the contract play out- maybe add a year to the current deal.
But there is no reason for a new 6 year deal at this point.
I don’t get it

so much for that model incentive laden contract
Have a good run against one of the weakest SEC schedules in history, hasn't yet won a thing, and you’re back to being tied to this guy for nearly nine figures.
programs can't help themselves. No end in sight to things changing.

These deals almost always end up with the coach on the hot seat in 2 years. Dumb.
Just give them incentive increases.

Wonder if someone was going after him. Maybe auburn?

I mean, this is always true for DC type head coaches. He made an excellent hire in Klein, but he also inherited Marcel Reed
(Or maybe he recruited, or kept him committed, I forget.) Not until Wegman stunk it up did they make a change. Of course, kudos to him and staff for making the change (hey to BK, Les Miles).
It will be interesting to see how Elko does with no Reed or Klein. And at the same time a yuuge paycheck.

Reed was brought in by Petrino

I would even renegotiate the current contract. That way you aren’t adding money plus years to a ‘newly hired’ coach.

Agreed. The Notre dame win is a solid win but other than that they’ve played arse all year.
