Do you have to be a rocket scientist to coach in the SEC?

What exactly do coaches like Saban and Kirby have that make them successful?
Scheme?
Ability to motivate?
I was always under the impression that it was just straight talent. How is it a guy like Jimbo or Napier struggle to succeed with the resources they have available?
I say all of this knowing that I've never coached a sport in my life.

I think you need to be organized, smart, a good leader, a reasonably strong tactician, a decent recruiter and have some accountability within your organization
If you lack any of those it’ll be tough. You often see lots of guys excel at recruiting but lack other key elements of that equation and they fail

Marty Smith was on the plane ride home with Alabama after they beat Clemson out in Glendale for the title. He said coach Saban took a 20 minute nap and then watched high school film the entire flight home. Guys like Saban and Kirby are just built different

They also have complete control over the boosters. They got to their programs while the boosters were hungry and willing to go in whatever direction the coach wanted.
Pretty much the exact opposite of Auburn, A&M, and Texas where the boosters think they run the show.
Saban definitely has the qualities to maintain control.
Kirby probably does too, but is definitely aided by not having to deal with the sense of entitlement among the boosters that other programs have. The next guy will have a much harder time.

That’s a good point. Seems like the programs in disarray and chronic underachieving programs have a lot of outside interference. That was the issue here for a long time certainly.

Its no coincidence these are the best 2 recruiters in the conference.

Kirby can barely form a complete sentence
However, the guy can motivate like nothing else and drive elite players to play tough, disciplined, team football. He and Saban also hire elite assistants and don't have an ego about surrounding themselves with other good coaches.

Kirby is average coach who’s been buying superior talent for about 5 years now.

same things that would make those two successful in everythign they do, same with BK.
all would be CEOs if they went business world
they are highly organized, pay attention to every detail, great leaders of men where they lay out expectations, the steps to get there and motivate/hold people accountable
big thing with saban and kirby is their ability to be able to pivot and adjust on the fly to changing landscape/culture.

if it was that easy...why couldnt schools like texas and A&M with all the money they have win multiple championships?
because it is not that damn simple.

Ah yes. It's worked out so well for Miami and AM. Why haven't more schools done this!!

Being great at the football part makes good coordinators. The organizational and leadership skills added to that make great HCs.
This is also just like in everyday life in all professions.

Nope. You just have to have a league willing to let you get away with more penalties and shadiness.

Owning a dodge dealership doesn't hurt either
From Saban players having sweet rides and Smart allowing drag racing on recruiting visits, it all goes hand in hand.

They have. All schools do it. Georgia got lucky with one championship (that’s a fact, don’t deny it. Had Bama had their receivers they would have beat the shite out of Georgia that year). And they have the luxury of playing in what has been a very weak east division. The few schools who could possibly compete (Florida and maybe Tennessee though Tennessee is unfortunate hindered by lack of in state talent) in that division have been hot garbage for the most part. Florida just keeps making one dipshit hire after another but claim every year their AD is “the best there is”.
Stop acting like Kirby is some great game day coach. He isn’t. He was a decent coordinator who fell into the right situation and is willing to be just shady enough to get done what has to be done to win.

Staffing. You have to be great at hiring great assistants. None of these head coaches can win anything by themselves. Georgia is playing at a level now that Bama's best teams under Saban may not have played at due to staffing. Kirby is making better staff hires than what Saban is currently making. Look at Saban's best teams and his staffs were off the charts. I can say the same about Urban Meyer.

You always have the most retarded takes on Smart and UGA. The guy just won back to back national championships and you still think he's a terrible coach.
Some other awesome takes by you on Kirby Smart from a short Google search:

You’re crazy to put Smart and Malzahn in with Orgeron, and Jimbo. Those 2 have something Smart and Malzhan do not.

Just accept that Kirby Smart is a shitty coach.

I agree that Georgia is recruiting well. But I also realize that Kirby Smart is a frick up on the field.
