How awful was he with different talent last year?

last year he got a “doing a lot with a little” benefit of the doubt but we were 33rd in scoring D and 41st in Total D.
We were 74th in 3rd down conversion%

That was a bette than expected defense but not a good one and honestly, it wasn’t that bad personell wise. Perkins, Wingo, Roy, BJ, Jay Ward, JBC. Baskerville was a good player. So was Mekhi Garner.

The real question is, what is supposed to make his defense work?

We don’t get sacks
53rd 2022 (29)
58 2023 (26)

We don’t pick the ball off
79th 2022
55th 2023

We don’t get pressure with out DL (16 Sacks total from the DL)
We don’t Blitz
We don’t stuff the run

We can hire a lot of guys to say “well if we have a really strong DL getting pressure we’ll look really good”

that’s not rocket science. it’s what he does when that’s not happening and the answer is nothing.

Like maybe if we had a great defensive recruiting class then I can understand. But even that has been garbage this year

Regardless of what you think of House, the scheme used this year wasn't House's preferred scheme
Here is what House did: he chose to run a scheme that he thought was low risk and that would do the least amount of damage to LSU. What we all found out was that this scheme would result in a score of some sort for the opposite team 70 to 80% of the time. Not only that, but it would result in a tired defense in the fourth quarter. You can’t allow a team to set records for time of possession and/or number of plays in a possession. It is fortunate that we had Jayden Daniels who could keep up with that type of scoring. If not, we have a losing season.

In my opinion, what he should have done was employ a scheme that was high risk/high reward. I would use Perkins to absolutely intimidate the opposing quarterback. He may not get to him every time, but if a quarterback knows Perkins has him in his sights on every single play, it is going to affect that quarterbacks’ play. There are numerous ways to use Perkins to accomplish this. House chose not to do it. You saw what could happen in the latter part of the fourth quarter against A&M. Perkins spied and blitzed and used his judgment to get after the quarterback. Result: a shaky quarterback, who lost his confidence.

In the end, House made no attempt to adjust his scheme. It was the “same old, same old.” House needs to be replaced immediately.

I don’t believe Culotta but if he’s right, Kelly is about to lose the fan base. The melt would be unprecedented.

You can make the case that decision allowed us to win 9 games when many were predicting 7 after the Ole Miss debacle. There's no doubt the final product was shite. It's just a question of whether there was a better option.

I think if you objectively look at our cornerbacks, we don't have a single one that could provide even average man to man coverage. Even worse, they weren't capable of not blowing assignments in more complex zone coverages.

I think this is true. I'm not sure this was his decision. We were in disaster mode before we lost Harris and Zy Alexander. After that we were in a spot I've never seen us in.

I don't want him to say anything. I'm just acknowledging that there is no legit info.

The only thing that allows us to win nine games this season is Jayden Daniels, period.

And they did not, so let’s keep doing the same thing, right? And while we are at it, let’s neutralize the most effective player on the field.
Harold Perkins is the most instinctive player we have had since Tyrann Mathieu. All he does for me is make plays in the offensive backfield or at the line of scrimmage. He doesn’t let the quarterback cross the line of scrimmage, doesnt allow a dump off pass to a running back, and he blitzes the quarterback instinctively or when he sees him break containment. When you tell him, he must do this and must do that, you take away his incredible instinctive ability.

Matt House used firecrackers when he could’ve used dynamite. I’m sorry, he has to be relieved of his duties.

NOW.

The issue with that is House contract is up next year. If the defense doesn't look better Lsu will have another staff year anyway.

His contract was extended by one year this past April, so he has 2 more years.
