Maybe so, but Crowton did not call the right plays to be successful with the athletes that LSU had. He also did a very poor job at QB development--Jefferson still has a slow release, Lee's footwork needs work. He was paid good money to notice those things & he did basically nothing to address things like this. He would often get away from plays that worked & didn't call enough screens and other plays that could have better used the talent the Tigers had.

but here's a few candidates...

Jarvis Jones (starter at OU)
Zhamal Thomas
Matt Allen

Don't see how you can deny that attrition on the OLine was a contributing factor to the offense sucking in '08 and '09.

How about these guys?

2005 recruiting class - only 1 signed
2006 recruiting class - lost 4 out of 6 OL recruits:
Matt Allen - 4*
Zhamal Thomas - 4*
Steven Singleton - 3*
Phil Loadholt - 3*
2007 recruiting class - lost 2 out of 4:
Ernest McCoy - 4*
Jarvis Jones - 4*

So over a 3 year time period (2005-2007), LSU ended up with 5 OL after signing 11. That's some pretty rough attrition imo.

At least one of these guys would have pushed the 2009 OL starters if not replaced them.

I guess I should also mention that 2 of the 4 OL you've listed were DL (Hitt and Barksdale) who were converted to OL because of the attrition.

AGREED! At least a few of those guys would've been starters and/or quality backups.

His logic was flawed...just b/c someone was a "returning starter" from '08, doesn't mean they would have become a starter, let alone held on to the job, if some of those players had stuck around.
