Colts hiring Jeff Saturday as interim HC

He was a consultant with the team. Not on staff. Never been a coach if any kind at college or NFL level to my knowledge.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen an interim HC not be on staff, let alone never been a coach at all in college or nfl.

This is strange. I didn't even know he was interested in coaching.

Finding the black coach on staff to be the interim so you can put out press releases touting he's your 1st black head coach then obviously replacing him with a white guy when you make the permanent hire is a go to move in college and pro football now. Guess since they had Dungy and Caldwell they knew they didn't need that step.
