He hasn't ruled out coaching again and in an article in ESPN, it was mentioned that he said he would keep coaching if his AD didn't think Lake was ready. If he was done as in frick all this bs I'm out, he would have just walked and went fishing or something. I don't think these top-tier coaching guys just up and lose their fire out of nowhere. I think he just got tired of his extensive efforts and personal time being used up to no real avail and Woody said, hey bud, I got something real nice in mind for ya...just give me a bit to get this fool out of your chair. That retirement timing when Woody hit BR? I just can't think it was an accident.

You know Pertersen already signed...

I think Woody did. I even think Woody helped it along, but no one wants to think he could be that coldblooded. I say he had a vision when he showed up and O was never in it, regardless of 2019. But, we'll probably never know unless Feldman drops another book in 15 years or so lol.
That said, the same applies to Aranda. If he impressed Woody enough for him to see a HC in Aranda early, maybe sent Dave to Baylor, behind Rhule who left them in a good spot, for some resume building to sell it this year.

I'm sure SW had a front row seat to the shitshow that followed 2019. I'm sure he knew pretty quickly that O was in over his head.

I think it’s Peterson as well. I think that was the deal of the retirement for Peterson. He retired the same year SW came to BR. Hell everyone knew O would burn out even after the title. The writing was on the wall when all those coaches left town and then the draft stripped everything. Peterson was counting the days when his buddy would call and say “ you ready”

If CP...
Then why not announce it much sooner to get recruiting off to a rebound?
I'd be excited about this hire...but why wouldn't he be announced already?

When Coach Petersen was the receivers coach at Oregon his then one-year-old son, Sam, fell and hit his head during a preseason scrimmage game. What was supposed to be a routine check to make sure everything was alright turned into any parent's worst nightmare. Sam had a brain tumor that had spread to his spine.
Not sure of any updates on his son now though...

If he can't handle the pressure at Washington, he wouldn't make it half a season here.

If he was a serious option why has it taken so long? He's not coaching right now.
Solid fallback. Go hard for your number 1 but if you fail, Petersen is a hell of a backup plan.

If announced next week, it might be a Petersen or an NFL guy - or possibly Nap. Playoff/ 6 bowl guys won't be announced until Jan.

It would be an A+ hire but I worry the LSU political machine would be an issue for him. He all but had the USC job until he made it clear he didn’t want to do media shite and donor shite.

I don't see Chris Petersen coaching in the southeast unless he really really really has a very very good reason.

How so we know it's not already being told to the recruits we want to have that info?

We are all looking at this hire and its candidates from our needy fan perspective, not the perspective of an AD running a mega-million dollar program who is in league with a multi-billion dollar Conference Commissioner... and has had a long history with the head of the NCAA- a governing body that we all assume will die as we know it now, probably within a decade.
When Texas and Oklahoma come to the SEC, the ADs and Comm. Sankey will be running the single most powerful and wealthy collegiate football league ever known since the sport's inception. Each AD is trying to shore up his program accordingly. This spate of LSU hires will be Woodward's contribution to that end. Looking at Petersen's bonafides, both on and off the field at Boise and, more directly, with Woody at UW, shows he has been somewhat groomed for what Woodward has in mind for the future. A large part of this future is learning the media game and how it is changing sports across the board.
Petersen has been sitting in a catbird seat at FoxSports for a season now. In his role as a pre- and post-game analyst, he not only is privy to the nuts and bolts of how football narratives are presented for public consumption, he has also been able to have unique access to a variety of teams. This is of course invaluable for any evaluation of staffs, players, and schemes. I do not know what the terms of his contract are, nor do I know what postseason games Fox is contracted to cover, but if he has been awaiting Woodward to bring him along to LSU, it stands to reason that after the regular season he should be available. If they cover conference championships, then he could still be announced and work through the next weekend to finish it all up.
Consider too, the nature of his job. If say he called Mike Elko under the guise of a retired coach-turned-talking head wanting some background on how they handled Alabama, or what Elko's mindset was when he watched Ole Miss on tape, Elko would be inclined to share insights more freely. If the word was released immediately after O was canned that Woody's former guy was the Guy and he was at Fox compiling information for next year's strategies at LSU, it's unlikely he could do his job effectively. Better to quietly keep him in place to do his job, and wait to move onto the field again.
There have been some recent flips by a few recruits, but everyone understands that there most of the uncommited blue chip Louisiana guys are just in a holding pattern and still leaning toward their home school. WE are all in a hurry, but the recruiting process is not. The LSU brand is still going to carry the day.

This is the most intelligent and well thought out post I have seen on the CCB, and we just don't need this type of logic around here! DOWN VOTE.....
