he would've been hired already.
I guess I get this in theory. But Woody could have 100 different reasons for waiting. Namely to let O finish the season out without distractions.

Petersen, Aranda or Riley make me happy.

Dude would be a home run, that’s for sure. Don’t think Woody can pull him. Would absolutely fricking love the hire though.

I'll give scientologist credit for one thing, they are usually successful in their careers.

I think it may have more to do with his special needs son?

Fox Sports contract.
Can you post a link or a source that stated such?

Hasn't been a head coach of a major program in several years. He has no ties to the SE US. He's not known for recruiting. There are better options available for LSU.
USC should be calling him though.

That list is incredibly small

Less than two years. One of those was last year with covid and political bs everywhere. The year he was "retired to recharge ", his words

He's not as retired as everyone makes him out to be -without looking at the man in depth. He's listed at 10 million net worth. If you had 10 million and your former boss said take a few years off and I'll get you 75 more millions and a consistent shot at a ring ( something UW and the Pac12 could not) wouldn't you say a vacation before generational wealth and glory sounds good?
The only qualm I would have if I was him is leaving the mountains for the bayou. He's never coached or lived beyond the Rockies. I started looking hard at him when it looked really bad for O. All I knew was Smurf field guy who got beat down by Bama in the playoffs at UW. Gotta say, on paper the dude is exactly the breath of fresh air Woodward could use in BR. When you consider what he did with Kellen Moore and Idaho talent, consider what he can do with Howard and Nussmier and the crew of freshman WRs he is inheriting.
Forget the sick kid. He's grown. Forget the burnout moniker: he was just tired of working his arse off in Seattle only to hit the ceiling of his conference and school's location.

There was talk of friction between him and SW's replacement as AD. Hating your boss can turn into hating your job pretty damn quick. I don't know the man personally so I can't say it is this or it is that but from all accounts he and SW had a great relationship. In my mind he's second only to Meyer but with none of the baggage.

Can't speak to friction between him and Jen Cohen but since he stepped aside he is still on a leadership board for UW, active in fundraising when possible, and most recently is heavily involved in a NIL startup company aimed at UW players. He stayed at Boise a long while and has been good to UW. If he up and moved from the West Coast to BR, he is coming here to build a brand. Given the substantial changes we all assume SW and Tate is about to make in the Admin, I don't think it's so far-fetched to think that Petersen wants in on some real legacy building at a place he can finally win really big.
