Is he just not at all interested in coaching down south? I'm just curious why his name is rarely brought up when there's a big coaching vacancy around here.

He gets paid millions to live in Seattle. He'd be stupid to leave.

An earthquake will put Seattle in the pacific one day. He'd be stupid to stay.

Culture. He's a pacific coast kind of guy. I'm not sure his style would work out here

He is a scientologist I believe. No way in hell he would be able to recruit the parents of recruits down here with that crazy BS when everyone down here are christians.

I figured that was probably it. I'm just surprised you never at least hear about him entertaining offers.

It used to be. Then he kept turning them down because he didn't want to leave the northwest. I guess people finally caught on

He stayed in Boise for a long time when he was a candidate for some big jobs. I think he stays in Washington for awhile.

Yeah, well, we live with the yearly threat that a hurricane will wipe out everything. Apples to apples.

Petersen likes being under the radar. He likes for the coverage to be about the players, not him. I think in order to succeed in the SEC you have to have a big ego (and I don't mean an egomaniac).

You have to love the challenge of unbelievable expectations.

You have to embrace the media coverage.

You have to like the limelight.

Great guy. Great coach. Wrong hire for LSU.

Also, I don't think he'd come. I'm fairly certain he has turned down other big programs' overtures in the past.

Similar situation to Jimbo in this sense. I don't know all the details, someone else on here does, probably. He has a child with severe medical problems. He is getting great medical care in the northwest.

That is at least part of it.

As for the idea that he is a Scientologist, I think that has been shown to be either an intentional false rumor or an inadvertent one due to a misunderstanding that there is some actor with the same or similar name who is a Scientologist.

A little more info I found while surfing. Can't vouch for its accuracy.

quote:

Peterson is not a Scientologist. That comes from an article written on Deadspin.com by an alum of the University of Idaho. UofI alum and fans have the same love/hate relationship that UT and UofM fans have, only slightly less classy. Chris Peterson is Catholic, and his ties to Boise are (according to him) rooted in the fact he has a young family that enjoys the area. His son Sam (now around 12-13 I believe) was diagnosed with some form of cancer (brain tumor I believe) as a very small child, and still requires checkups, which he has received in the area for years, making the Peterson family very familiar with and comfortable with his doctors. Peterson seems to be a very rooted person, who really believes in making his family first. His sons can often be seen on with him during practice, sitting on the sidelines watching, and often shadowing him as he walks the field. Yes, I am a BSU alum and I have met Chris Peterson, I dont claim intimate knowledge of him, what I have stated is public knowledge in Boise.

Well shite I constantly brought it up, but after reading about him I don't think he'd leave Washington unless he was fired.

Three things.

1) His name gets mentioned all the time, but he doesn't leave.

2) He's from the Pacific Northwest, and I think that's where he wants to be.

3) He has a child with a rare disease, and the biggest reason he chose Washington is because a Seattle hospital specializes in that particular disease.

I'm surprised the legitimate family reason hasn't come up in this thread.

There is no fear up here in the NW that Peterson will leave. From what I know, he is much like Don James and Nick Saban in the way he approaches the job of coaching football, but a nicer person. Very, very thorough in his approach.

True

False, California. Although he's spent a lot of his coaching career in the PNW.

False. His son was fine before he left Boise. He came to UW because he always respected the program from when Don James was the coach and thought that the timing was right, plus he thought that it was a good fit.
