Caution to LSU fans: Jeremy Foley had to settle on Ron Zook after Spurrier left Florida...

He tried to land big fish during that search and then settled on Ron Zook. I am not expecting us to catch a big fish during this search, but I don't think we end up with the next Ron Zook either.
My point is that landing the big fish is extremely difficult. Florida was a top program at the time, and their AD wiffed on every big fish during that search.
Despite his history of splash hires, Woodward is not guaranteed to land a big fish at LSU this time around. Landing Riley is/was a long shot. Uprooting your family with young kids is a tough call. Not to mention that you are already paid handsomely at your current place (before his upcoming raise), which happens to be one of the top programs in the country.
On top of that, he has a chance to be in the Big 12 championship game and possibly sneak into the playoffs.
With the early signing period looming, LSU cannot afford to wait long beyond November 29th (Monday after A&M game) to announce the new coach.
My hunch is that the next LSU coach is a coach that has nothing to play for after November 27th...no sources...just common sense.

He'll do better than Ronald Zook.

So is Orgeron the Spurrier in this analogy?

OMG! What does this mean? Are you telling us that LSU is hiring Ron Zook!? What is going on? I’m so confused with all this cryptic speak around here! Someone please decipher?!

Coach O is getting his own job huh.

I fully expect Woodward to have a solid back up plan.

Get out of here with this soft boy shite. Land a big name or gtf.

Agree with the logic. Don’t agree with limiting yourself to a timeline. That is exactly how you get a sub optimal deal in anything.
It may take some in person meetings and multiple rounds of negotiations, which can only happen after the season, in order to convince a big fish. Alabama did so with Saban and we should do the same if necessary.

Team Vol checking in. Agreed, looking like we'll settle for Sonny Dykes this time. Just not enough money in the honey pot to get the biggest fishes. Will be tough to compete with the big money donors in Highland Park for Sonny, though.

A head coach is a long term investment in the program, not a band aid to patch up a single recruiting class.
If we have to wait, we wait. This is bigger than a single recruiting class.
If you wait and get the right guy, the subsequent recruiting classes in the years ahead will more than make up for missing a guy or two from the 2022 class.

Napier will be here for 3 years and flounder. Then we’ll get Urban Meyer 2.0 who will win 2 championships, then fake heart issues so he can go finger bang some coeds. After that, we’ll get a coach who likes to frick dead sharks.
All in all, it’s gonna be a fun decade.

Are you comparing Orgeron to Spurrier? One guy had a great year and then let the program fall apart, the other dominated the SEC for a decade and brought 6 sec titles to a program that had never won one.
The coaches are as dissimilar as are the programs they took over and left behind. We’re talking an apples and zebras comparison, but you have a website and I don’t, so carry on.

Zook's stock was very high then. Just saying!

All the more reason to stop fantasizing about Riley, and go get Aranda before USC does.

Your logic fell apart once you said you used common sense.
