This article came out the end of last year, so it sums up his ND career up til this season.

quote:

Expanding it further, Kelly is 3-8 against opponents ranked in the top 10 at Notre Dame. Five of the eight losses were by 14 points or more, including that 28-point loss to Alabama in 2012 — the last time Notre Dame played for a national championship.

His response from the article, when asked why his teams always come up short vs ranked opponents:

quote:

"I mean, we're knocking on the door every year playing really good teams and great opponents," Kelly responded. "There's elite football teams. I don't know why this narrative continues to pop up when we're always in the games."

So I guess being "in the games" is enough for him. Who need to win them, right?

This year they've only played one top-10 team and that was when they lost to Cincy.

Y'all can sunshine pump this hire all you want, but the dudes record vs ranked opponents is terrible. And that was at ND, now he'll be playing much superior competition week in and week out. He is not a big game coach. We're looking at 8-4 and 9-3 seasons until this old frick gets fired in 4-5 years. Yay?

Because Notre Dame has been at an athletic disadvantage. LSU will not be.

Your deranged melt proves it’s an incredible hire. What’s his record against LSU again?

This is a bullshite excuse. ND has the number 4 class this year, better than LSU’s by the way

Dude just think about it for a minute. Read the article again. Then think about why he would leave Notre Dame for LSU

O has an excellent record against top 10 teams. Sometimes there’s more context to one stat line

Bingo: somebody has some intelligence. Composite ACT at Notre Dame is 34!, SAT is 1475. the Min allowed to get a scholarship at ND is I think 23!

Lots of recruits that He can not recruit and then go against the Bama's, LSU's, Clemson's who can recruit without restrictions and only require the NCAA minimum for D1 which GPA is I think 2.3. There is a formula that combines GPA with ACT so with a 2.8, you can make a 15 and still get in.

He doesn’t have near the talent those elite teams have.

If this is the argument then most of his wins are also talent gap given their soft schedule.

He didn’t take over a program two years removed from a NC with a ton of talent there for the taking. When did they last win? ‘88?

He'll beat Tex - A&M - OU - and maybe Arkansas on a regular basis
