You have to imagine that Kelly already talked to Freeman while negotiating with LSU.
The conversation was probably, "Yes, I'd love to go with you, unless I get a HC offer."
Otherwise, he'd have just said yes and would be on the plane with Kelly like all of Lincoln Riley's staff.

yeah my only hold off on MF is he's become such a rising star one year here and he'll have some big offers in a less wild carousel next year. That would be 4 DCs in 4 years here

I think Freeman will wait to see what ND does. He is a candidate for HC there. If they hire Fickell, he will likely be on the shortlist at Cincy as HC, as well.
I'd love to get him here, but we probably won't know for at least a short while as he needs to see how the dominoes fall.

We should be absolutely ecstatic if we can get Freeman to join. He would be MASSIVE for recruiting purposes.
