Yeah, I don't know how people can just gloss right over this. He bailed on a major sinking ship at FSU that was mainly on his shoulders with discipline issues galore. Jimbo would be a bad hire and nobody is going to convince me otherwise. He's not a terrible coach but for the money you're slinging in his direction you can do way better...

hope he doesn’t kill our program like he did to FSU’s especially with what it would take to outbid what A&M is already paying.

FSU killed their own program by going cheap on assistant coach salaries and following Jimbo with 2 god awful hires

They were sinking under Jimbo and they just maintained it. Was all downhill for them after he won NC.

Sure was a lot of noise on Jimbo before he pulled off the win at Bama. Amazing what beating Bama does eh. Don't worry, they'll come to their senses soon enough and so will LSU when he starts losing again soon.

After the NC they went
13-1 (playoffs)
10-3 (NY6)
10-3 (NY6)
7-6 (left for A&M)

It's pretty apparent at this point that FSU has serious issues beyond the HC. Jimbo was calling out school administrators when he was still there.

I keep seeing this posted, but haven't seen a "way better" candidate posted who is realistically attainable.

Jimbo has one of the best resumes in the country among active coaches, whether you want to admit it or not.

They started sinking his last year because his QB got hurt in the season opener and the backup wasn’t ready. FSU would not commit to facility upgrades and increased pay for coaches. That’s why they sunk.

Lol they literally made the playoff the next year by going undefeated. Just say you don’t like Jimbo because your arguments have no merit.

If he comes to LSU, which right now he is, he is going to be a force in recruiting. A&M is only relevant with TX recruits. LSU has the fertile state of Louisiana and Jimbo has now developed contacts all over the south. He will absolutely kill it here.

I'm not down on the possibility of hiring him. I was just responding to the idea that he beat Alabama with a "walk on" QB and then pointed out, fairly I believe, that he has done a very poor job recruiting and developing quarterbacks and QB depth at A&M.

There's no doubt there are things to be excited about if he comes to LSU. He's crushing it in recruiting and it would weaken A&M. My biggest questions are: Would Elko come with him and Would he ever consider delegating some OC responsibility?

I’ve ALWAYS been a HUGE Jimbo fan. I wanted him to take over the program when Saban left and he was my first choice to take over for Miles. But that was before he left FSU in utter shambles. And he’s been fair to middling at A&M, at best.

Yup in a weak conference. A super weak conference at that. Partly why he jumped ship after his final horrible season there. He had a lot of strife among the fans getting tired of his shite, the wife stuff, and the admin/boosters getting tired of him too. They maintained the shambles he left them in. When the next guy came in he had a mess to clean up especially on disciplinary issues. Jimbo left them in that state.

I think it’s fair to feel that way actually. Like I said. Some people are going to melt. I went through that stage already

But there are a lot of benefits I’m starting to realize.

I can promise you the melt will not be as bad as Orgeron so we’ll live

What Jimbo accomplished at FSU was extremely difficult. The facilities aren’t comparable to elite programs and the administration has not kept up with the times. He won despite all of this.

Last year was only his 3rd season in College Station, and A&M finished #4 in the country.

He currently has the #2 QB for ‘22 and #7 QB for ‘23 committed.

These are guys coming in years 5 and 6 he'll have been there. He's been there 4 years already. QB room should have been better stocked by now. He couldn't even find anyone to challenge Mond for the starting spot.

Both guys we recruited hard and turned us down.

Uh. You really think we recruited Connor Weigman from Cypress, TX that hard, when LSU legacy and the top QB in the class was 50 miles down the road?

Also, Eli Holstein was highly unlikely to come to LSU after Howard committed here.

I wanted us to hire Jimbo back in 2016 then hated the guy when I thought he played us for a raise. In hindsight it was probably more Alleva than Jimbo. There are a few other options I'd prefer, but I'm not complaining if Jimbo is the guy.

I can only think about all those Jimbo offenses at LSU that put up so many yards just to only score 23 points. He’s a coach that will consistently get you to 9 wins but that’s about it and his offenses are notorious for turning the ball over.
