Brady Discussion

I’m going to try to get all these posts consolidated into one thread.
Facts are facts, he helped turn the 2019 offense into the greatest of all time. The degree of that change has been hotly debated.
It’s a passing league, and LSU might have had the best WR room of all time. He developed those guys.
He is only 32 with plenty of room to keep growing. A job was offered to him that he wasn’t ready for, but couldn’t turn down at the time.
It’s been said that he wasn’t a fan of recruiting. Well, his circumstances have changed and so I would imagine he realize that to be a great OC, he will need great players. I believe his tune will change.
If you hire him, he will coach the WRs, which means BK will need to also hire a PSG/QB coach.
My opinion is, I like the hire if Lebby goes to the Sooners and Briles chooses to wait on a HC gig. We learn lessons in failure. Brady went from getting NFL head coaching interviews to fired in a year.
His style fits the college game better. He knows that now.

The more I think about it, the more I think the pairing of Brady with Kelly’s influence could be successful.

I actually think he would be great working with a coach like BK. Since he will be working within an already designed scheme and can draw up plays based on what BK already has instead of doing it all on his own.

It is Kelly's team now. His choice. I'm all for Brady tho. Coach O seemed to think Brady was running the offense and he knows more about how much Brady contributed than anybody on this board....

So the fact of the matter is that Brady’s only experience as a true play caller has been at Carolina and the reality was that he got fired. You can believe he was calling plays in 2019 all you want, but he wasn’t. I’m not saying he wasn’t a contributing factor to the greatest offense ever, but he wasn’t calling the plays. He helped craft game plans and design plays but Slinger was the signal caller at the end of the day, not to mention a literal NFL offense and the best college QB ever being given free reign to call whatever audible he wanted.
Now, supposedly Brian Kelly is a real hands on guy with the offense. Would it hurt to have a guy who understands how to structure a modern RPO based offense on staff? No. Does Kelly have any particular reason to choose Brady over anyone else? Also no.
TLDR: Brady wasn’t what some of y’all think he was and Kelly has no reason to choose him anyway.

Would love to have him as PGC and WR coach, not so much as the OC.

Is there no push for Western Kentucky OC?
I admit I don't know enough about him, but they have the #2 ranked offense. Maybe because they don't run the ball?

He’s going to Texas Tech apparently

Kelly could choose him because of what he brings to the offense and because I’d suspect the WRs would reflect him and his resume’.

He was vetted by Matt Rhule. It wasn’t like Matt hired him on a whim.
I’m of the belief that he could do the same thing with Walker Howard and our very deep WR room.
I don’t know where y’all keep hearing that Kelly is heavily involved in the offense. That’s not true.
He heavily involved in the trenches. Kelly believes that you win games in the trenches. Natty are won with skill players.
Brady develops skill players.

All evidence is that this is total fiction. Before and after Brady, the offense called by Slinger did not resemble the 2019 offense in any way, shape, or form.
And before you bring up Burrow, Burrow was there with Slinger for a year before Brady, and the offense looked much like it did in 2017.
Brady transformed everything about the passing game.

I think this is a good point. He probably didn’t like recruiting bc the nfl was his ultimate goal. Now he is probably rethinking his career and career goals and it may involve college and I’m sure he will buy in on recruiting if that’s the case

He's not interested in LSU at this stage in his career.

It's also not the same coaching in college vs NFL. Some of Brady's troubles were out of his hands due to injury. I'm not 100% sold on him as OC but I also don't think it's fair to assume because he didn't do well in the pros (for various reasons) he wouldn't do well in college. Two different animals.

It's a fact that he did call red zone and 3rd down plays while at LSU. I believe Ensminger was even quoted as saying that.
quote:
Q. How do you decide on what you want to do in the red zone each time?
STEVE ENSMINGER: Look, I have a game plan that's sitting right here. I'll be honest with you here. When we get in the red zone, 12 in, that's Joe Brady. Unless I want to run a play-action, go fast, we'll go. When we get inside the 12, I tell Joe, It's yours and he calls it.

If anyone watched the special they did on LSU’s championship run, you can see he was calling where the pass should be thrown before the snap. This guy was playing a video game and he drastically upgraded the route combos, the precision in alignment and how the routes were run. I’d take him as OC.

LSU has 3 top 100 true freshman WRs. And the first WR in next year’s draft.
LSU has the beat Hybrid TE and the best TE in next years class.
I think he’ll like his weapons.

Not to mention Ensminger himself said that Brady called plays in the red zone and 3rd downs both places that were very bright spots for us on offense in 2019

The Panthers may have fired Brady because he had a conniption fit when they brought Cam Newton back
