I didn't include this because it is true every time you hire somebody for any job (in football or out). Just look at RichRod at Michigan vs. RichRod at Arizona. It is doubly true when you hire somebody with a rather thin resume, which describes Clark at the college level.
However, he has succeeded at every job so far, and the UAB situation was bad from the time he was hired (he was warned at the time he was hired that the school was doing a review of the program with an eye on eliminating it.)
Maybe, his ties to Alabama HSs would give us a shot at pulling some kids out of Saban's backyard.

It will be a short stay; he's the top of the list for any G5 looking for a coach after next season (other than the top of the G5). IF CJ doesn't get it together, I'd have him in the top tier for us.

No he wasn't. He's not dumb. Why would a rising coach take over a program that he knows might be shut down in a year or two?

Warned or not, his stature grew a ton from that 1 year at UAB where he looked like a miracle-worker.
I believe he was warned; thus only a 3 year contract. But that's why he could take the risk - they pay him for 3.

He was told only 3 because UAB didn't want to commit 4 or 5 in case he left after two years the previous coach did.

I lean towards the rising star, regardless of how long he might stay. It's a little bizarre to me how LSU has supposedly gotten stuck in this "must have significant equivalent experience" mindset for any coach they hire. I've heard it said on TD that this mindset is due to Mike Archer's tenure at coach, but that doesn't make it rational.
By that reasoning, Oklahoma shouldn't have given Bob Stoops a chance considering Stoops only had a few years as co-DC at Kansas St (per wiki) and 3 years DC experience at UF before OU hired him. (Whether or not you like Bob Stoops, he is a very good and successful coach.) And UF should never have given Urban Meyer a shot considering his HC experience was a combined 4 years at Bowling Green & Utah.
The way the chatter on these boards go, LSU would never consider hiring coaches with such limited experience. And it strikes me as the decision makers being scared and settling for a conservative, but at times, uninspired choice.
Sure, some rising stars don't pan out: Muschamp @ UF, Dooley @ UTenn, etc., but sometimes experienced coaches don't work out either: Rich Rod. @ UM, Callahan @ Nebraska, etc. So, experience is definitely not THE definitive factor in determining future success.
If Bill Clark fits the mold of the type of defense LSU wants to run, that's what's important. If he seems like the best guy for the job (except for experience), LSU shouldn't be afraid to give him a try. Just add incentives/bonuses to his contract so that if he doesn't pan out, he wasn't an expensive mistake and if he does prove he's worth it, he'll be taken care of and less likely to bolt for the next opportunity. If Clark is as good as some suggest, then if he sticks around for a few years and gets some seasoning as DC at LSU, he may be in position to take over Miles... he does, after all, have a little HC experience now. Note: I'm not saying to offer or promise him that chance. But if he is the next can't miss young coach, after 2-3 years, if they pay him well enough and Miles is nearing retirement, the AD will know if Clark is worth considering and can vet him for potentially taking over.
As long as they don't choose Clark over a truly better option, I don't think it's a bad decision to hire him (based on the limited feedback here).

Conservative hire won't win us another championship.
I want someone who can scheme on the defensive side of the ball. Just sitting in a 4-3 relying on talent isn't good enough sometimes. Miles is more risk averse than people realize though on the defensive side. I just think he ultimately goes conservative on this pick.

Clark took two moribund programs at Jax State and UAB and in one year made them into winners. A fine coach but a finer man. I hope he stays around here and the Tide picks him up in some capacity.

Is he really someone they are interviewing or reaching out to? Is this being reported anywhere or just a name someone thought of? Just curious.

He is a young and firey coach who had his job ripped from him. He went to UAB with expectations of staying for some time. He was making them into contenders and doing it well. He would be a fine coach to have on any team and someone who would learn for HC experience latter on.

He's never coached at LSU's level. He's only spent one year at the DI level.
