I think they wanted to hire Durkin but I don't think they were able to. A&M hasn't let him go officially and won't make a move with him until after the bowl game if they make one at all. MSU doesn't want to shell out $6m to hire him. I *think* these two coaches were who Durkin suggested instead.

Which frankly, I don't understand the fascination with Durkin. He was absolute garbage with bad talent and alright one year at Ole Miss with average talent and then just fine at A&M with all world talent.

If he had a higher budget then why wouldn’t he go after someone with DC experience do you think?

I imagine he tried. At the end of the day tying yourself to a first time head coach at one of the hardest places in America to coach at is not extremely appealing for I most experienced, high level coordinators. Just is what it is.

If lebby can have some success, I think that obviously changes. We shall see

Mullen went through quite a few coordinators here, many of which weren’t very experienced when they were hired. Some did well, others not as well

All of his good ones had at least one full year of FBS coordinator experience prior to State. The ones that didn't such as Wilson and Sirmon were not good coordinators.

OLB group at Bama was much improved from last year, but Kevin Steele was also involved with that group so not sure how that did or did not impact things.

Didn’t realize Hutzler was an SEC level coordinator candidate but I wish him the best.

Personally I would’ve preferred him to get some playcalling experience somewhere first but time will tell.

Rumor is our administration vetoed Durkin, either because of the buyout, the Maryland stuff, or both.

Absolutely ridiculous in either case.

If I was Lebby I would be irate. Not a good start to that relationship if it’s true

The buyout reason makes sense. If I am MSU I am not spending $6m (buyout + 1st year salary) to get DJ Durkin.

I don't know if you can hire Jeff Lebby and his baggage and then claim moral high ground with Durkin and his baggage.

The difference in the Ms State stature in Baseball and football is staggering. Almost as staggering as the difference in Bama football and baseball.

Wait another year or two and our baseball won’t be impressive either

I remember him being terrible here at Carolina. We were happy to see him go.

remember like Champ, Bobo, etc...good players can make bad coaches look good. But he is going to state..

With a first-time DC this season, State was sixth in the SEC in total defense. A lot better than South Carolina.

With this new guy, we will still be better on defense than most of y'all.
