Baker made the right choice.

Tulane made the playoffs this year
It would be hard to keep them at that level so a good chance they are less successful over the next few years.
He would not want to be saddled with a program that appears to be declining at a mid major if he cannot repeat this years success.
It’s better to hire on to a rising mid major and show improvement and then jump to a higher tier program.

Very easily can get hired out of DC spot to power 4 team later w/o dancing at tulane. Imo his timeline hasn’t changed

At 3 Million / year it's a no brainer to stay. He can be patient and wait for the right gig to open up. The only reason he should have even considered going is because it's his Alma Mater but who really cares that much about that

This wouldn’t matter a bit. I have no idea what his career aspirations are, but from a strictly moving up the ladder perspective, he made the wrong move.
I can say that and still be glad he stayed, there’s just no reason to not be realistic about the situation

Pretty much everyone on this board, and most of them didn’t even actually go to LSU.
Many posters where melting he “didn’t love” LSU when his name started to get brought up

I’m not so sure. If everything comes together as speculated (wins, playoffs, etc.), this probably propels him a bit further.
If he is able to sustain success across two coaching regimes, I think that helps his resume quite a bit.

Baker is going to get looked at for power 4 jobs in the next year or so. There's no reason to go and take a chance at Tulane or Memphis if they're not willing throw in some NIL money.

4 G5 coaches got p4 jobs. Only Alex Stein got a P4 job as a coordinator and he had program ties. I guess you could Lupoi at Cal but he played there too.
You’ve got guys like Schumann, Grubb, Flood etc didn’t even seemingly get a sniff. He’ll, even Iowa St hired the sitting Washington State coach.
It doesn’t mean it can’t or won’t happen for Baker, but sitting head coaches seem to be preferred candidates for big jobs. Which makes sense in this era, there’s so much more to running the program than coaching ball and the only way to get that experience is to do it, even if it’s at a lower level. And a program like Tulane operates about as close to the big boys as any G5 school

That’s a good point. I tend to liken sustained coordinator success at big program like LSU to being neck and neck with a Tulane head coach. Their recent success does speak volumes, but I think they're pretty close as resume builders. That being said, Baker will likely get his shot next year or the year after.

I think the pitch from LK was pretty straight forward.
Baker could go to Tulane and POSSIBLY have success, or he can stick around and make almost the same money and learn what a proven process looks like. In 2-3 more years, he’ll be up for P5 job somewhere having been around a truly successful HC.l

No he didn't unless he knows Lane will be fired in about 3 years and he'll take over.

There’s no actual indication of that though. In fact the last couple of coaching cycles would directly refute it

Wut? Tulane is a top 5 G5 program. They are investing in the program and the last 2 coaches got P4 jobs. Its better than several p4 jobs.

There was no wrong choice.

Right but they made the playoffs this year and the coach left.
If the next coach doesn’t win the conference and make the playoffs they will be looked at as declining or a failure. It is hard to follow up success
Even as stable as Bama has been, look at Deboer for a case study. If he loses a game the sky is falling compared to what Saban accomplished.
It’s easier to rise to the top than stay at the top.

Wouldn't have faulted him if he took the Tulane job, just glad he stayed

Absolutely
Higher percentage of a successful program to add to his glory.
Can get a better job from LSU as a DC than Tulane as HC.
And LSU will pay him more until he bolts for a major HC job.

He’s pretty young. Hang with Kiffin and learn offense, maybe win a natty, bank the 12 mil and be set for life then take a flyer at glory. If he does his job a head coaching opportunity isn’t going anywhere and the prospects only get better. What I would do but that’s just me
