I never said it didn't matter. I said it stupid some people on here insinuating they know what OL coach is solid or not. They couldn't name half in the SEC. It's just pathetic how some of you beat down a coach because he came from a lower tier school. But he is a veteran coach.

I am not beating down the hire because I don't know anything about the guy. I am laughing at those that say it doesn't matter who Gus hires on offense. That is just fricking stupid.

Meh, I do know that Pittman is a top 10 OLine coach

Has he ever won a conference championship?

ETA: Who was the OL coach the last time Arky won a conference championship?

jimmies were rustled when I saw some of the comments. Every position coach matters. I think Gus looked at other alternatives but felt he was the right OL coach for his offense. Otherwise he would of came in a lot earlier with Lashlee. That's MO anyway

OL coaches matter alot.

Their blocking schemes need to match what your trying to do offensively.

Truth is Gus needs certain schemes for his offense and needs a O-line coach that is comfortable with those schemes.

With Grimes Gus knows he is comfortable.

You can get away with hiring all different types of WR, RB, TE, coaches but your O-line and QB coaches need to match your offensive philosophy.

I think AMM meant that we don't care about big name hires on offense because Gus is after coaches with a very specific coaching style that fits his system. There aren't many big names out there that can coach Gus' system.

ETA: Yeah, exactly what you said in the above post.

What is Gus doing? He had a decent year at A State but he has to up his game. This is not the time to bring your BBQ buddies along for the ride.

Gus has had his Eye on this Grimes a couple of times. He's a hardnosed good coach, not the recruiter J. Grimes was but a very good coach.

This was pretty much a done deal for a while but it was to not cripple ASU in the bowl game prep. Jason at ITAT confirmed this earlier today.

2 SWC Championships - Arky and Texas A&M
2 Big East Championships - Virginia Tech
1 Sun Belt - Arkansas State
1 Southland - La Monroe
1 1-AA National Championship - LA Monroe

You're right. That's a shitty resume worthy of laughter.

I don't think anyone really feels it is not important. However, can anyone here really claim they know what makes a really good OL coach? Frick no, most on here do not know shite about what makes a good coach at any position. Just message board pundits talking shite. Looks like Grimes has some solid credentials.

He coached O-Line at Virginia Tech when we made it to the National Title game in 1999. He's legit.

Here's an idea. Let's just wait and see how Auburn's O-Line does this year.

Yeah, that sounds like a fine idea.

Here's his video profile. Seems solid to me.

Gus is bring back the old Sylvester Croom staff. Ellis Johnson, Charlie Harbison, and now JB Grimes. He needs to go after Woodie McCorvey and Reed Stringer next.

Also, none of these guys could recruit worth a shite.

that's because they were recruiting to starkville. Malzahn can sell his program... and harbinson is a solid recruter. I expect two of our next hires will be coaches who focus more on recruiting.

Get better troll material dipshit. Mullen has been the only one to come close to recruiting decent at MSU, and he still sucks. You even talked shite about Mullens recruiting ability. Hint for MSU fans: it is difficult to recruit kids to come to the shithole called Starkville. You will always be 4th to 7th in the league standings with an occasional surprise season. Why? You're MSU. Grind on that yo.

Auburn staff just keeps getting worse.

What a mistake Gus was, he clearly isn't ready for the big time.
