Maybe, but at the time the rant was bitching because we were not kept informed of every step of the process. The Lincoln Riley night was one we will be taking about for a long time.

The Tom Herman night was another example of what you are talking about but if the agent wants the information leaked he can easily and quickly find a way to leak it.

I think both are correct to a degree.

It’s been making the rounds this year that Lane has seemed pretty happy with his life in Oxford. I don’t think it was to the point where he wouldn’t have left for Auburn What ultimately kept him in Oxford was the apparent wishes of his children.

That does seem hard to believe because we are talking about Kiffin.

Whenever there is an opening, sexton's clients get raises. And Whenever a sexton's client has a good season, a rumor about his departure pops out.

Yeah, I also heard something about his children playing a role in his desire to remain in Oxford.

The most logical theory is that the boosters wanted Lane. Cohen didn't. So Cohen leaked the story to his boy Jon to make Lane either publicly accept the Auburn job or allow Cohen to move on to target #2.

It backfired on Cohen because Lane didn't really turn down Auburn until Wednesday/ Thursday morning. So Cohen then had to go back to the boosters for a plan B but also was against the clock because other jobs would be open and his 3 week head start was basically pointless.

Very interesting theory, but I find it hard to think Cohen would be stupid enough to put his first big time hire at AU in the hands of the boosters. Whether Sexton or Cohen leaked it or the media made it up (also a very likely scenario), it's not a good look for Cohen.

It is Auburn. The boosters are the program.

Kiffin was never leaving Ole Miss. It was a family decision, and they won

Sexton got him paid. That is all

He had the extension that he signed 4 days before the leak happened. This makes zero sense.

A lot of people think they know Kiffin because of what the media says. Kiffin was never going to Auburn.

Cohen wanted Freeze and his track record of beating Saban/Bama but that could not be his first choice. Needed a public turn down of a "proper" first choice and floated the Lane story early and often to actual Media members (one of whom gained some name recognition) not just message boards. Bonus points for messing with the Ole Miss team prior to Egg Bowl. Now can move to "second" choice Freeze with Booster alignment because of panic of having to go to "third"+ choice. Cohen used the Media and the idea of Kiffin to play the boosters and have them thinking they are all happy with the choice. At least that's my theory.

It’s apparent the Kiffin offer of $11 million annual/$77 million over 7 years was total bullshite

I get the feeling that Kiffin to Auburn was Les Miles to Michigan II where it was leaked purposely by someone as a poison pill to kill the deal.

No way Lane would turn down 11 million per year to stay at OM.
