If Auburn hadn't leaked out their interest in Kiffin, they probably would have him as their head coach right now. Instead, they allowed public pressure on Kiffin to affect his family and his decision-making.

It's programs like Auburn that make you appreciate how LSU, USC, Wisconsin, and others kept their deal secret until it was finalized.

Cohen has a history of leaking things to the media. So sounds about right.

I don't agree. We don't know what came from Auburn, Sexton, or the media. Furthermore, many media members have been known to lie. That's why I rather not listen to any of it.

This is an incredible dumb post. Kiffin wasn't leaving Ole Miss for Auburn. His daughter moved in with him and is a senior in highschool in Oxford and will be attending Ole Miss next year. Knox is also probably gonna be moving in with him. Lane has been looking at very nice homes in Oxford.

After all of the dust settled, it's become clear that the "Lane to Auburn" was just message board fodder trying to sell subscriptions.

And your post is equally as dumb as the one you are calling out.

All the Auburn smoke around Lane was most likely put out to the media by Sexton to get his client a raise from OM. Or, it was legitimate interest between the two parties.

Well considering how things played out, it looks like it was a play by Sexton to get him a raise and not mutual interest

Meh, we don't know what info was coming from who.

The thing Auburn screwed up (and a little of it is on Lane as well) was just letting the wild speculation twist in the wind for so long. They should have told him earlier this week to accept the offer or not. Either way you have X amount of time to sign or we are on to the next guy. Lane could have ended a lot of it too by giving a definite answer one way or the other.

Nah he had the extension on his desk for 2 weeks. He could have put this to bed a lot earlier. He considered Auburn and said no.

Crazy with OM basically being a Sun Belt team and Auburn being a nation powerhouse program. (If you believe the Auburn fans on here.)

Auburn didn’t leak shite, Jimmy Sexton did. The man is working overtime to get Freeze there and worked Auburn and OM to get what he wants for his clients.

. I guess if you actually knew what you were talking about you would know that Kiffin bought a 5000+ sft house in 2021 in Oxford.

The problem with dealing with a Sexton client is running the risk of Sexton and his client playing you to get a raise from the current school. And if you employ the Sexton client, be prepared to get leveraged every year or two.

If John Cohen and the people running Auburn didn’t know that, they shouldn’t be running this search. And they also had to know that Freeze is radioactive so they should have had a Plan C already in place.

Maybe they do, and maybe it’s someone currently involved in playing a game this week. Or maybe they’re as incompetent as they look.

You don't know who you hired as AD then. He has a history of leaking stuff to the media for his benefit. Seemingly has backfired on him finally.

The most logical theory is that the boosters wanted Lane. Cohen didn't. So Cohen leaked the story to his boy Jon to make Lane either publicly accept the Auburn job or allow Cohen to move on to target #2.

It backfired on Cohen because Lane didn't really turn down Auburn until Wednesday/ Thursday morning. So Cohen then had to go back to the boosters for a plan B but also was against the clock because other jobs would be open and his 3 week head start was basically pointless.

It's like this is your first time watching a coaching search.

How much you want to bet Auburn didn't leak anything. It was media, Sexton, and Lane.

Sokoloff ran with the puzzle pieces and dropped the news to gain clicks and put pressure on LK before the Egg Bowl. Kiffin wanted more from Auburn and Auburn didn't play ball.

Kiffin chose OM extension.
