Dean Koontz. A little wordy at times but the stories are always intriguing. Particularly The Moonlight Bay books "Fear Nothing" and "Seize The Night".

No Neal Stephenson fans?
Snow Crash?
Cryptonomicon?
C'mon man.

Philip K Dick.
Second place would be far behind, but Heinlen is pretty good.
Robert Anton Wilson is a bit out there, but also fun. Not as depressing as PKD.

Probably my favorite book of all time.

I enjoyed Snow Crash. Only other thing I’ve read by him was Sevenes and only got about halfway through with it. Not a bad book, just stopped reading for whatever reason.

I listened to it on audiobook a few weeks ago and have read it a few times before that. I'd forgotten just how funny it is. Great book; certainly in my top 10.
For sci-fi authors I'd go with Stephenson, Heinlein, and Zelazny; in no particular order.

Gene Wolfe. The New Sun series is excellent.

Arthur C. Clarke and Frederik Pohl.
Childhoods End and Gateway are the greatest SciFi novels written.

You read the best part of it. The last part when humans come back to Earth wasn't nearly as interesting to me. You should definitely give Cryptonomicon and Diamond Age a try.

I will always go with Asimpv first. After that, Niven/Pournell, Roger Zelazney, Michael Moorcock.

I’ve never been able to get past a few pages of Gaimen. Just not my jam.

That dude is a tough read. And I say that as a die-hard Steven Erikson fan.
My list:
Asimov
Herbert
Heinlein (my favorite by a mile)
Poul Anderson
Clarke

Frank Herbert - Because Dune really is the GOAT
Isaac Asimov - Because of Foundation mainly for me, but he was ultra prolific
P.K. Dick - for completely blowing my mind repeatedly without needing drugs
Arthur C. Clarke - Consistently good stuff. Great idea guy. Like a non-druggy Dick if that makes sense.
Robert Heinlein - For giving me several books I loved as a teenager

Isaac Asimov (Robot series was very good, have only read the first foundation book)
Larry Niven (Ringworld and Ringworld Engineers were both fantastic)
Robert Heinlein though I've only read Starship Troopers
How is Moon is a harsh mistress? I often see it cited as one Heinlein's best but haven't read it
Also have never read a Phillip K. Dick story nor Arthur C. Clarke.

I love it. Fun, easy read. It's pretty much a libertarian anthem (but nowhere near as preachy or out there like Rand's writings).

If anyone is into audio books, they did a full cast production of American Gods.
Agree, absolutely loved the books on tape version. Whoever voiced Odin was great. And Norse Mythology was great too. Nice and short. Ideal for a long trip.
