Haven't read fiction in many years but when I did Anne McCaffrey was probably the closest thing I had to a favorite. Loved the Pern books.

Foundation and Empire might be the greatest two sci-fi stories in one book...

Philip K. Dick is my favorite. Ellison and Silverberg are great too.
I'll add Clifford Simak and Theodore Sturgeon to the list. Very innovative guys for the time period they were writing in.
