Robert Heinlein though I've only read Starship Troopers
How is Moon is a harsh mistress? I often see it cited as one Heinlein's best but haven't read it
It's among the best SciFi of all time. Seriously. Read it. Part philosophy, part political history, part dystopian fiction, part rebellion of the weak against the strong, it is a crazily forward thinking novel that deals with the advancement of A.I., the possible colonization of other planets, and the obvious historical repetition involved therein.
Great book.

Neil Gaimen
He's a fricking hack. Hate him.
You may hate him, but he's no fricking hack. The man is one of the most celebrated fantasy writers of all time, let alone of today. Ocean at the End of the Lane by itself would put him in the conversation of greatest fantasy writers of today, but you add American Gods, Neverwhere and the Sandman series and you have an amazing collection of masterpieces, and that's before the children's books like Coraline and the Graveyard Book. He's a fricking force.

I loved the Old Man's War series and Lock In by Scalzi. I just finished Head On and it was garbage. Agent to the Stars was also garbage.
I think he has a ghost writer, as head on was just so bad. And he released three books in a year.
I really like scalzi, le guin, neal stephenson, vernor vinge, ian banks. No particular order. I read a lot of sci fi, probably 20-30 books a year.
