How do you track books that you’ve read?

I use some combination of pen and paper as well as my Kindle app (and Goodreads).
Curious if anyone here uses any different apps or has preference for something else?

I don't.
I have a list of books I'm interested in reading that I haven't gotten around to yet, but I don't track what I've already read.
My library app remembers but that's more of a passive record.

Goodreads allows you to organize into custom shelves. You can edit your start and finish dates. I wish the 5 point rating school was 10 point. They recently added a "Did not Finish" status, which I'm grateful for. The giveaways are cool. My wife has won multiple books. Once I've given a positive rating to an author's book, that author's upcoming releases show up in the My Authors section of New Releases. This is how I keep track of new releases from authors I like.
I prefer the desktop site to the app, just because it has more of the features.

A good old fashioned spreadsheet for the win if not. Columns for title, author, genre, start/end date, notable chapters/characters, etc.
Use the date fields to calculate total days, page number in columns to see average pages per day, break it down by these averages across genres, etc. See which genres, authors, times of year you read the most/least/fastest/slowest.
Get nerdy with it

Was an early Goodreads adopter and was super active there. Abandoned it for years but since I got a Kindle, that’s my tracking method. Super easy since Kindle automatically adds my purchases to the account. Then I can go back later and sort anything that was finished when I was offline on my kindle into the proper shelves. When I read a physical copy or listen to an audio book, I just manually add them to my Goodreads.

I still use goodreads. Tried story.graph and it is better, but the amazon database for books helps out goodreads for my ease of use.

I use the what are you reading thread. I also have a note in my phone but haven’t been keeping it updated.

I started using OneNote, just a simple list of Title - Author. My wife has a large library of hardback books that I read along with Kindle download from the library. Then discovered that Goodreads also tracked activity from my Kindle. I've been using both methods for about 5 years

Goodreads for me. There’s another app called StoryGraph I’ve heard of, but haven’t used. Apparently it lets you give half star ratings, which is a critically easy yet absent feature on Goodreads.

I use StoryGraph exclusively, and it's fairly easy to use. The summary graphs are also very pleasing to my eyes.

Off topic (sort of), but for those of you who read on a Kindle... do you have a hard time remembering the name of the book you're reading? Admittedly, I read a lot (I'm close to 60 books in 2026), so there are a lot to track, but without the constant reminder of the cover, people will ask me, "What book are you reading?" and I struggle to answer half the time.
