Fwiw if anyone got the email from audible about the update to book 8
Fixes chapter metadata, lack of pauses between chapters, and a cut-off sentence in the last post-credits scene
I'm halfway through heat two
Loving this book

If that's the one with Take On Me I agree completely.
This thing is wild. And deep.

I am just about to finish book 1 on Audible. At first I was reluctant to start this series but since I had 8 credits to use I decided to give it a shot. It was hard to get into at the beginning but after a while the story and humor took over and now I am hooked! Great summer time fluff!!

The Nashville tour event was awesome, we got like 5 sets of the patches
We kept two and gave the other 3 out to some crawler friends for cost. At least kept them away from scalpers on eBay. They had a limit on what you could buy and they didn't sell out. We traded to finish most of our sets.
Finally got an answer, not a good one for where the patches go on the battle rattle. Unfortunately, like half my patches need to be moved.
News for book 9, it is the final book and the wait for the next book is probably going to be longer than the wait for book 8. Matt is being a dick with this one on purpose.
So, he is writing book 9 as one long book and completely wrapping up the series. After he is done writing book 9, he is going to figure out the most annoying cliffhanger part in the middle and split it there. He will then release part 1 of book 9 as a book and wait a bit and release part 2 as book 10, but he is calling it one book with two parts. He thinks its funny that way.
Matt came out like an hour before the event and just hung out with everyone in line. Dude is just seriously humble and loves having fans.
If you didn't know, one of his college jobs was working as a psychic for Ms Cleo. I hadn't heard him go real in depth about it before, but he said he averaged 56 mins per call and got 4.99 per min with the first 5 minutes free. He had a demand from his boss to keep people on for at least 19 minutes. He said his training was just go buy a pack of tarot cards and read the instructions on the pack.
He said he quit because he felt shitty about basically hustling people.

I had only ever listened to one other book on audible and it was project hail mary. I listened to it a few months ago and never used audible again. On the project hail mary movie board topic someone mentioned dungeon crawler carl book.
I had 7 credits so I said eff it and tried it out.
I'm fricking hooked. I think I started book 1 about 4 weeks ago. I'm almost done with book 7 and low and behold book 8 just came out last week

He’s really upped the body horror with this one. Not sure why this one is grossing me out more but it’s happening.
Overall, still really enjoying it.

I took me probably half of the book to really get into it. I didn’t love the concept of the floor and I had just re-listened to Inevitable Ruin so the chaos of faction wars was still fresh in my mind.
But when the heat turned up in this one….. man it’s good. Probably my second favorite of the series so far.

They're all dark, but this one is malevolent. Just finished it.
I'm going back in shortly just to get the stuff I missed. There is a LOT going on in this one.

I'm in a couple of DCC Facebook groups and lately a lot of folks have been bitching about the lack of LGTBQ representation in them
MINOR SPOILERS
They should be happy, I'm about a quarter of the way through Parade of Horrible and there has been a couple of mentions for them. Dong Quixote and his crust sock is gay with the half mantaur gimp. Also, Piglet is a twink.

Weren't the strippers mostly malleable? Like, all of them?

The acid rain protection goo being called “spooge” makes for a great brick joke.

He said he named it that just so Jeff would have to yell "I crave spooge."

I’m thinking more of the part tied to that, to where another character gets confused and says something like “I thought we would have dinner first…”

Around halfway through Parade of Horribles. I really wish I would have reread the last few books, because there are just so many characters that I'm having a hard time remembering specifics on a lot of them, which does detract from the reading a bit... as each of the characters have such great history and idiosyncracies that really only land when you're remembering those things about them. At the 50% point, I feel like I'm finally immersed back in the world.
On another note... I (in a moment of inebriation) recommended the audiobooks to a friend. Now, this friend group that I was with are somewhat high-brow and successful (lawyers, dcotors and such). I'd formerly recommended books like The Names, The Correspondent, etc.. so I issues the DCC recommendation with some regrets (what the hell is this guy going to think of me when he starts this series? He's not a gamer or nerdy or fantasy type guy at all. What was I thinking?).
I haven't really talked to him about it sense, so I was flabbergasted when he came to my son's graduation party this week and said, "Have you started parade of Horribles, yet? Oh my god, this series... I can't thank you enough. It's been so great." Then we talked for a while and I found out that he's got half HIS famly reading/istening to it now as well as several OTHER friends from similar backgrounds. His son-in-law's dad (Walmart exec, I believe... some kind of exec) was recently at his daughter's graduation and didn't take his airpods out the whole time because he was listening to dCC.

Just goes to show you that a lot people are never happy. Matt is clearly liberal and a supporter of LGBTQ issues given what he has covered in his books. One of his characters in Dominion of Blades is trans. There has been a lot of gay characters in DCC as well. Besides the strippers, one of the warlords in faction wars was gay.
People get mad there isn’t more romance, it’s not that type of book.

This series can really appeal to anyone, my wife has never been a big fantasy person and I got her cosplaying to various geek events with me and she was super excited to go meet Matt in Nashville. Matt does a really great job of building the relationships between the characters and telling their stories that connect with people.

Not going to lie it's one of the perks of the book for me. The fact that this is just clearly a dude writing a book with no forced messaging is kind of refreshing.
Also, it's not a love story and there are very few actual humans even in the book, nobody is thinking about lgtbq in the dungeon.
